44 Water / Wastewater Global Expert to Showcase Renewable Energy Solutions at Oman Event
Geotech, a QED Environmental Systems company is showcasing its market leading solutions at the Oman Energy and Water Exhibition this May. Earlier this year, the United Arab Emirates invested £134bn in clean energy projects to ensure that half of the country’s power needs could be generated from renewable sources by 2050.
UAE’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, said: “Our aim is to balance our economic needs with our environmental goals. He who does not think of energy is not thinking about the future. The UAE government has made an achievement in drawing up a unifi ed energy strategy for the country.”
The perfect setting then for Geotech, manufacturer and supplier of portable and fi xed gas pumping systems and environmental products for the biogas, landfi ll, CO2 monitoring, groundwater and land remediation sectors. Operating in over 60 countries worldwide, the global company delivers product reliability and longevity, minimal through-life costs with extended warranty service packs and full on-site maintenance of all parts.
Geotech Major Account Manager, Graham Sanders, and Territory Manager, Mike White, will be at the renewable energy event where Geotech and instrumentation water products will be on show for the duration of the three-day exhibition.
Visitors to stand 6140 in the UK Pavilion will see Geotech’s new BIOGAS 3000 system - a next generation fi xed analyser that offers optimal continuous monitoring of the gas production process. The in-line system utilises up to four sample points assessing CH4, CO2, O2, H2S and H2 levels to enable site operations to maximise gas production yield. Easily installed and simple to use it is certifi ed to both ATEX and IECEx Zone 2, equipped with a multi-faceted alarm system for early warning awareness and comes with three years’ warranty.
Also on show will be a comprehensive selection of QED water treatment solutions including: the A2 - a total fl uid pump for harsh liquids in landfi ll, petrochemical brownfi eld and remediation industries; the AP3 - a pneumatic positive air displacement pump for harsh liquids in the landfi ll and remediation industries, and the AP4 - a pneumatic positive air displacement pump for harsh liquids in landfi ll, petrochemical and remediation industries. All water products feature competitive fl ow rates and pumping capabilities and a patented, proven design for superior reliability and durability.
Geotech’s Managing Director, Dean Kavanagh, said: “This event provides a great platform for networking with some of the region’s leading waste water, remediation, biogas, groundwater and landfi ll operators to better understand their needs and consult with them on the latest technologies and solutions available. It is a great way to share information and learn about how Geotech’s products can benefi t its global colleagues.”

HWM, in partnership with fi eld services expert Enviromontel, has won a contract to supply, install and maintain fi xed-point sewer network monitoring equipment for Severn Trent (ST).
In what is thought to be the largest project of its kind, ST is targeting better monitoring of its wastewater networks in order to improve performance and customer service, as well as reduce fl ooding and pollution incidents.
Following a rigorous evaluation process, ST decided that HWM offered the greatest overall value and was best able to help ST achieve its strategic objectives. HWM is due to provide three separate products over a fi ve-year period, all based on the company’s new Intelligens data logger: 700 Intelligens Flow monitoring systems, capable of recording parameters such as velocity and depth, 3,000 Intelligens WW and SonicSens ultrasonic sensors, used to record the level of fl ow, 1,130 Intelligens Flood Alarm systems, which register that the level in the sewer has risen beyond an acceptable height and transmit an alarm.
The intrinsically-safe (ATEX Zone 0) Intelligens is housed in a rugged IP68 enclosure and fi tted with a GPRS modem for remote monitoring and reprogramming. The unit’s advanced power management allows for over fi ve years’ data collection and transmission under standard operating conditions. An alarm regime can be confi gured for each channel and threshold conditions set to trigger faster logging and accelerated data transmission during alarm conditions.
The data logger and associated interfaces are compatible with a variety of sensors including Doppler-effect velocity, hydrostatic depth, ultrasonic level, radar level and digital inputs from rain gauges or fl oat alarms. This allows HMW to offer complete
monitoring systems suitable for permanent or temporary fl ow surveys, level monitoring or fl ood level alarm. Typical applications for the equipment include foul, combined and storm water sewers, as well as adopted private sewer monitoring, but it can also be used for open channel or outfl ow monitoring.
The benefi ts of long-term monitoring in wastewater networks include a reduction in both the frequency and impact of pollution events. Permanent installation of remote monitoring equipment helps to alert network operators to immediate problem sites. It also improves understanding of network performance and delivers data to assist with the development and testing of advanced network models.

The OTT Hydromet Group has launched a new web-based data management service for remote monitoring stations. “Hydromet Cloud represents a step-change in data management,” comments UK Managing Director Nigel Grimsley. “Subscribers to this new service are provided with fast, simple access to both live and historical data, which opens new opportunities for exploiting the value of ‘Big Data’.”
Packed with new features, Hydromet Cloud provides users with easy access to secure data from fi eld monitoring sites at any time and from almost anywhere via
hydrometcloud.eu or the Hydromet Cloud mobile App. Typical applications include water quality, hydrology and meteorology. Data are transmitted from fi eld stations through a variety of methods including satellite, cellular (GPRS/3G/4G) or wired internet connection, and stored/backed-up in the cloud.

Designed for fl exibility, the system enables users to create their own dashboard to quickly collate frequently viewed data, which can be displayed as plots, tables or values, and exported in a variety of formats, which enables easy analysis of trends. This facility to create a bespoke display is enhanced by a map view with colour-coded map pins (for alarm status), current data values and colour-coded parameter values highlighting alarm status. Alarms are user-defi ned for values, rate of change etc. and alarm messages are issued automatically by email, text or push notifi cation on a mobile phone. Separate limits can be set for both warning and critical levels, and users can also create alarm distribution groups for notifi cations.
A Hydromet Cloud App provides a quick and easy opportunity to view the status of an entire network or an individual monitoring station, with options to send/share data directly from a smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android). It is also possible to create and save ‘My Plots’ to recall common plots of one or more parameters; graphically illustrating recent data values and trends.
Hydromet Cloud provides secure infrastructure to receive, decode, process, display, and store measurement data from nearly any remote monitoring station via a cloud-based data hosting platform. Alternatively, for those wishing to conduct their own data processing, Hydromet Cloud delivers raw data (as it is transmitted by the station) using a dedicated download page, which is updated as soon as the data arrives. The system is fully compatible with the latest OTT and Sutron data logger/communication devices, in addition to a wide variety of OTT, Sutron, and Hydrolab sensors for water quantity and quality measurements, as well as Lufft meteorological sensors, third-party sensors and IP cameras.
Summarising, Nigel says: “We are extremely excited about the opportunities that Hydromet Cloud creates for our customers. This is the fi rst major new product development since the acquisition of Sutron and is a great example of the synergy that has been created by merging the companies’ development teams.
“Our customers know that data serves two purposes: one, to enable the analysis of background trends, and two to quickly and easily facilitate management by exception when alarm conditions arise. Hydromet Cloud achieves both.”
