Industry’s fi rst full-function, ATEX approved personal multi-gas monitor integrates cutting edge sensor technology for peace of mind in multi gas environments
NevadaNano have announced that Crowcon Detection Instruments Ltd. uses the Molecular Property Spectrometer™ (MPS™) sensors in their new Gasman fl ammable gas detection products. The new systems allow employees to rely on a single device to identify and alert them to the presence of 19 potentially dangerous gases in their work environment.
“NevadaNano is proud to provide the sensor technology for Crowcon’s ground-breaking Gasman personal monitors,” said Ralph Whitten, President, and Member of Board of Directors, at NevadaNano. “Our MPS sensors deliver unprecedented accuracy in detecting multiple fl ammable gases simultaneously, creating a safer work environment and protecting employees’ health and safety.”
NevadaNano offers a variety of gas detection sensors for fl ammables, all of which deliver unprecedented reliability and accuracy. Unlike traditional sensors, a single MPS sensor accurately reports 0-100% LEL across 19 fl ammable gases, including hydrogen, with a single factory calibration and no fi eld maintenance over their lifetime. This capability addresses the need for a fl exible sensor platform suitable for complex industrial environments and offers life-saving accuracy in environments with blended combustible gases.
Integrated, real-time measurements and built-in compensation for temperature, pressure, and humidity ensures superb accuracy of the MPS fl ammable gas sensors. Gas concentration readings are accurate across the wide environmental range, including rapid environmental transients, delivering best-in-class false-positive accuracy. The company’s MPS sensors are inherently immune to drift, decay, or poisoning.
“Our reliable portable gas monitors now have the industry-leading sensor technology that your applications demand. Gasman fl ammable portable monitors with MPS sensors help reduce fl eet maintenance, increase operational up-time, and lowers total cost of ownership,” said Ed Clapham, Portables Product Manager of Crowcon Detection Instruments. “More importantly, the innovative technology provides peace of mind by protecting workers in virtually any multi-gas environment.”
New cost-effective IR technology offers faster accurate A2L refrigerant gas detection
Stationary refrigeration units, air conditioning units and heat pumps must use non-polluting refrigerant gases, with low global warming potential (GWP), in order to comply with stringent, European F-gas (fl uorinated gas) regulations. These low GWP gases can be chosen from either among the natural gases such as carbon dioxide, ammonia and hydrocarbons or among the synthetic refrigerants among which are R1234yf and R1234ze olefi ns.
It is therefore essential to monitor for gas leaks from these systems to ensure the safety of both people and animals and to safeguard the environment. Most major hotel chains are increasingly taking into account the safety of their guests by installing gas leak detection systems both in public and meeting areas and in bedrooms where the air conditioning system and the coolers can be positioned.
Research into new refrigerant gases is ongoing, with the use of HFO (hydrofl uoro-olefi n) gases becoming more ubiquitous because of their negligible GWP levels, with an A2L level of minimal toxicity and a mild level of fl ammability.
Sensor technology for these gases has also come a long way. New detectors, with NDIR (nondispersive infrared) technology can rapidly detect low levels of refrigerant gases in a matter of seconds. These sensors also offer far far longer level of stability than the previous typically used technology, with means less time and effort spent on calibration.
These infrared sensors will not be damaged or poisoned by the gases being detected however: HFO gases have been known to poison both catalytic and semiconductor sensors. In addition, NDIR sensors are now far more competitively priced as both research, development and demand have advanced over time.
Sensitron have been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of NDIR technology. Their SMART3H is available in a wall and fl ush mounted version as well as a 220V standalone version with light and sound enabling or in the 10-30V version that can be connected to the gas control panel to monitor and remotely silence alarms. This detector not only ensures compliance to F-gas regulations, it also offers the peace of mind enjoyed by Sensitron customers the world over.

Dynament’s range of nondispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors provides detection capabilities for hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and refrigerants and are ideal for integration into original equipment manufacturers gas detection products. The Dynament NDIR sensors offer world class performance in the harshest of environments, across a wide temperature and humidity range. Dynament sensors are approved to global standards and meet SIL1 safety certifi cations.
The miniature sensors contain all the necessary optics, electronics, and fi rmware to provide a linearised, temperature-compensated output and offer a choice of output formats that allow for quick integration into any gas detection offering. Dynament sensors are also available in low-power versions, making the sensor ideal for battery and solar powered applications.
Dynament is pleased to offer the only dual-gas smart sensor on the market. A single sensor provides the capability of measuring up-to 0-100% volume methane, 0-2% volume propane and 0-5% volume carbon dioxide. Dynament also offers ATEX and IECEx Exd certifi ed explosion- proof housings for integration into certifi ed junction boxes or OEM gas detector enclosures.

The Gasman with MPS is ATEX Zone 0 approved, allowing operators to enter areas where an explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or for long periods without concern. In addition, the use of the MPS sensor quadruples the battery life as compared to legacy solutions, protecting workers for more extended periods. In addition, the Gasman with MPS is hydrogen (H2) ready. A single MPS sensor accurately detects hydrogen and common hydrocarbons without recalibration in a fail-safe, poison-resistant solution.
