Measurement and Testing

With its extensive communications capabilities, the Memograph M is ideally suited for IIoT applications and use as an edge device. October 23, 2018—Endress+Hauser releases the Memograph M RSG45 Advanced Data Manager DIN rail version, an intelligent remote device with extensive communication capabilities, making it ideal for IIoT applications and use as an edge device for getting data to cloud-based servers.

It is able to acquire data from up to 20 HART or universal analog input channels and 14 digital inputs, has two analog outputs and up to 12 relay outputs, and makes its data available to IIoT systems and all major automation system architctures via multiple communication interfaces and protocols. Interfaces and protocols include 4-20mA HART, Modbus RTU/Modbus TCP/IP, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Ethernet TCP/IP, USB, RS-232C/RS485 and OPC.

With all these interfaces, the Memograph M easily communicates with new and existing PLCs, SCADA systems, distributed control systems, historians and cloud- based data structures. It also has an embedded web server that can be accessed by any web browser via the internet once proper security procedures are followed.

The Memograph M mounts on a standard DIN rail, is powered by standard 24Vdc or 230Vac power supplies, and has IP20 protection. All connections on the front of the device are designed as pluggable screw or spring terminal blocks, with reverse polarity protection in either case, making connections quick and easy. The spring terminals are unlocked with a slotted screwdriver.

It provides tamper-proof data recording on 256MB of internal memory compliant with various legal directives, a 32GB SD card and a 32GB USB drive. Built-in software includes FDM Field Data Manager for visualization, analyzing, backup and reporting; audit trail software consistent with FDA21 CFR part 11; and Itherm TrustSens temperature sensor calibration. Application packages include mathematics, Telealarm, batch management, wastewater + RSB (rain spillway basin) and energy calculations.

The Memograph M can generate e-mail or SMS messages to alert users of alarm conditions or process events. Messages can be sent to several recipients simultaneously or automatically forwarded to a recipient/destination. Messages can be confirmed, relays controlled remotely and current values queried by any web browser.

New technology protects pumps in hazardous areas easily and reliably against dry running

A new type of detection technology from Siemens protects centrifugal pumps from dry running in hazardous areas. For this purpose, the corporation has developed special current/voltage detection modules for its Simocode pro motor management system. The principles and practical applicability of this technology have been investigated within the scope of a research cooperation project with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (National Metrology Institute of Germany) in order for it to be certified as an ignition source monitoring device corresponding to a type b1 ignition protection system according to ATEX and IEC Ex.

Simocode pro uses measuring modules to monitor the active electric power consumption of the pump motor to detect a diminishing flow rate and shut off the pump in good time at defined limit values to prevent impending dry running. Additional sensor technology otherwise required to monitor the pump for dry running can be eliminated. A menu-guided teach-in procedure in the engineering software helps the user to set the limit values. The advantages of the new type of active power-based dry running protection from Siemens are not only less hardware, early detection of faults and the avoidance of damage to the pump but also safe, reliable explosion protection, savings in time and money spent on maintenance, as well as higher system availability and economic efficiency.

Safety has top priority wherever flammable media are used in industry. This applies in particular to the chemical industry, where flammable liquids are produced, processed and transported by pumps in hazardous areas. If the pumps start to run dry, hazardous conditions may arise inside and outside the pumps, such as air-gas mixtures, sparking and high temperatures caused by friction. The power consumption of electrically driven centrifugal pumps falls in the event of dry running, so Simocode pro switches the pumps off when consumption falls below a minimum value. This eliminates the installation of conventional monitoring devices, such as level sensors. The Simocode pro motor management system offers comprehensive protection, monitoring and control functions for the safe disconnection of motors, integration in process control systems such as Simatic PCS 7, and a large number of interfaces for system-wide communication. Simocode pro makes detailed operating, service and diagnostic data as well as process and measured values available to higher-level systems and cloud solutions.

47715pr@reply-direct.com Humidity transmitters with stainless steel enclosure

The high-end EE310 and EE360 industrial transmitters from E+E Elektronik are now available with stainless steel or polycarbonate enclosures. The EE310 humidity and temperature transmitter is dedicated for demanding industrial processes control. The EE360 measures the moisture content of industrial oils and thus enables predictive maintenance of machines and plants.

Both devices feature an optional 3.5” TFT colour display, which offers an optimal view of the measured values and facilitates the commissioning and configuration. The built-in data logger can save 20,000 values per measurand. The recorded data can be displayed as a graph directly on the display or downloaded via USB interface for further analysis.

The measured data is available on two analogue outputs and on the optional digital interface (RS485 with Modbus RTU or Ethernet with Modbus TCP). An

optional relay module can be used for alarms and process control.

The enclosure design facilitates installation and maintenance. The front cover, which accommodates the electronics and the probe, can be replaced within seconds, while the wiring inside the back cover remains intact.

The EE310 measures relative humidity and temperature in the range -40 °C…180 °C ( 40...356 °F) and calculates further physical quantities such as dew point temperature, absolute humidity or mixing ratio. The transmitter is available for duct or wall mount, as well as with remote probes.

The EE360 measures water activity and temperature and calculates the absolute water content of transformer, lubrication and hydraulic oil, as well as of diesel fuel. The sensing probe can be employed up to 180 °C (356 °F) and 20 bar (290 psi). The ISO or NPT slide fitting and the optional ball valve facilitate the installation.
