New Field Wireless Device Based on ISA100.11a Standard

Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Netherlands) announces that it has developed the world's first field wireless devices based on the ISA100.11a industrial wireless communications standard, and will release them to the market in July. These wireless products include an EJX-L series differential pressure and pressure transmitter, a YTA series temperature transmitter, and an integrated field wireless gateway which connects field wireless devices with a host system and provides a number of field wireless network setting and management functions in field sensor networks.

These field wireless devices are expected to satisfy a wide variety of requirements in the industrial automation field. To help companies achieve ever higher levels of productivity, Yokogawa will continue to develop various kinds of field wireless devices for both monitoring and control applications, and is also proposing the development of new field digital networks that integrate wireless and wired technologies.

Wireless technology has strengths that well suit it for field device and control system applications. Firstly; it reduces wiring and engineering costs. In addition, field devices can be installed in difficult-to-wire locations and plant safety is improved through the use of low-cost online device diagnostics

Despite such benefits, wireless networks have seen limited use to date in industrial automation applications due to their requirement for advanced technologies that ensure high reliability, real-time response, environmental resistance, and explosion-proof protection, and because of the absence until recently of an industrial communications standard for field wireless devices.

Approved in September 2009, the ISA 100.11a standard offers high reliability for use in industrial automation. Suitable for a wide range of applications, it gives improved flexibility and network expandability and high compatibility with existing wired systems

Following approval by ISA and ANSI, this standard will be published and submitted for the review of the IECSC65C Subcommittee of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

These new field wireless devices based on the ISA 100.11a standard fully complement Yokogawa's measurement, control, and information solutions and are expected to make a significant contribution to the realisation of the company's VigilantPlant concept of the ideal plant. This new technology will help Yokogawa's customers "See clearly, know in advance, and act with agility". Yokogawa will continue to seek out solutions that secure its customers an optimum return on their investment throughout the plant lifecycle.

This product’s primary concept is to offer suitability for monitoring, diagnostics and control. With bidirectional digital wireless networks based on the ISA100.11a standard, the production, device diagnostic, and parameter data transferred between a control system and field devices are securely encrypted. This wireless technology is ideal for status monitoring, device diagnostics, and control applications.

These wireless devices are designed to run on explosion-proof batteries that can easily be replaced in hazardous locations. Yokogawa also plans to develop easy-to-maintain solar batteries for use with these devices.

Yokogawa aims to assist the development of new technology while safeguarding investment in existing assets As a partner with its customers, Yokogawa is always looking to develop new technology solutions while working to ensure full compatibility with customer's current assets, thus protecting their investment. These products were designed with this requirement in mind.

Yokogawa plans to provide a trial kit that will allow customers to experience the advantages of Yokogawa wireless products. Details will be announced later.

Deep UV Optics now Available for Submersible Fluorometer

Turner Designs (USA) now offers a Deep UV Optical Kit for their C3 Submersible Fluorometer which enables detection of Refined Oils and Fuels. Recent developments in LED technology allow for excitation wavelengths down to 260nm. Using BTEX as the standard, the C3 is able to detect as low as 0.1ppm over a dynamic range >2500ppm.

The C3 Submersible Fluorometer is designed to incorporate up to three optical sensors, temperature and depth. Sensors can be selected to detect in vivo Chlorophyll a, blue green algae, rhodamine WT dye, fluorescein dye, crude oil, CDOM, optical brighteners, and now also refined fuels. Turbidity sensors are also available.

Process Gas Calorimeter Meter and Controller

Arelco ARC (France) has the pleasure to announce the release of the new Combustible Gas Analyser CGA100, designed to monitor the quality of all combustible gases (Fuel gas of refinery, Coke oven gas, Blast Furnace Gas, Biogas, Natural gas, LPG, Blending of gases) by determination of Combustion Air Requirement Index (CARI), the Wobbe index, the Heating Value and the Specific gravity.

The CGA100 is the latest version of the Combumatic process calorimeter, a concept developed by Gaz De France and Arelco ARC and a proven solution over 30 years of use to contribute to the energy saving.

The new CGA100 is easy to use, the touch sensitive display allows the user to see very quickly all parameters and the instrument integrates some data logging facilities (Alarms, calibration results, configuration…). It gives a complete traceability on the events that occurs on the analyser. The automatic calibration function gives the following possibilities: calibration on 2 up to 4 points, calibration cycles with malfunction detection related to the calibration. The CGA100 integrates an accurate density meter based on measurement of frequency of vibrating element to improve overall accuracy by density corrections. The density is also available on a 4-20mA for customer use. The analyser gives a large effective measuring range with span extension and 2 analogue outputs up to 4 corresponding to user selectable parameter. All these data are available directly on the display or with the Modbus RS485.

The CGA100 is suitable for installation in safe or

hazardous area zone 1 & 2 and ARELCO ARC can provide the sampling system and in option the ‘’CARI control system ‘’ with modulated injection of air in the gas to keep the CARI constant. The very compact design (16”X24”X16”) and the use of extensively proven components (witch ensure a minimal maintenance) make the CGA100 reliable and suitable for industrial process.

The CGA100 should be ideal equipment for use in automatic control system and provide a valuable service to many industrial users.

Usb Digital Termometer /Data Logger

Labfacility’s (UK) L200-TC, thermocouple thermometer can be used in conjunction with a PC to provide accurate, versatile 8 channel temperature measurement, scanning and logging of measured values. It can also be used as a “stand alone” 8-channel indicator/logger and incorporates a digital display of measured temperature.

The in-built, self-calibration facility is a rapid and convenient method for on-site calibration and does not require any additional equipment other than a special, external link.

The L200 is designed to provide exceptional stability with high measurement resolution and represents an ideal crossover between plant practicality and laboratory performance at a very competitive price.

The PC software supplied with the instrument allows control, measure, logging and calibration functions.

The eight input channels accept thermocouples type

J,K,T,E,N,R,S & B: highly stable, automatic cold junction compensation is incorporated.

Display resolution is 0.1oC on the front panel readout and 0.01oC in the PC software control panel. The integral, backlit LCD display can indicate selected channels or automatically scroll through all inputs. The measured temperature can be displayed in degrees C or F. RS485 communications are provided via a USB port.

The L200 is CE marked, RoHS compliant and has a two year warranty.
