Focus on ATEX New Universal Transmitter Simplifies Installation and Reduces Costs

Honeywell Analytics (UK) have announced the EMEA launch of XNX, a highly flexible, universal gas transmitter that can be used with any of Honeywell Analytics’ range of gas sensor technologies. XNX helps to simplify installation and reduce costs by providing all the industry standard output signals, enabling users to have a single interface to all their gas detection needs; even when different types of detectors are employed to address the different gas detection applications on site.

The most effective gas detection systems often employ a variety of detection technologies including point flammable detectors (both catalytic and infrared type), toxic and Oxygen electrochemical cell type detectors and open path infrared detectors. XNX provides a common transmitter interface to all of these and can be configured to provide all industry standard signal outputs to match the individual requirement of each application or the preferred site standard. The device is optimized for adaptability with a future-proof design that allows other output modules to be fitted as new output standards are developed and adopted by industry.

XNX can further reduce both installation and ongoing costs by providing common tools, common interface and common spare parts, allowing the device to deliver ease of operation, a reduced need for training and also a reduction in spare stock levels required. Users can modify the device’s operation using the LCD and magnet switches without ever needing to open the unit. An optional local IS HART®

terminal port is also available, enabling one man, non-intrusive, operation, which also helps to reduce routine maintenance time and costs. Local LEDs are also provided to indicate the unit’s status at a glance.

XNX is compatible with all of Honeywell Analytic’ current range of industrial fixed gas sensors including Searchline Excel, Searchpoint Optima Plus, Sensepoint (HT and PPM) and Model 705, and sensors can be remotely mounted. There are also two new versions of sensor available with this device; the new Multi Purpose Detector (MPD), which provides serviceable stainless steel sensor housing with plug in catalytic and infrared sensor cartridges and the new XNX EC sensor, which is also a serviceable stainless steel sensor with a wide range of toxic and Oxygen plug in sensor cartridges. The sensor’s interface to the XNX transmitter is intrinsically safe, allowing sensors to be ‘hot swapped’ without the need for a hot work permit.

XNX features global approvals including ATEX, UL, CSA standards, ATEX, UL and CSA performance approval (pending) and IEC61508 SIL 2 (pending).

This device’s adaptable design, coupled with its easy and flexible use make XNX suited to a wide range of applications and industries including offshore oil and production facilities, oil and gas exploration and drilling, refineries, petrochemical/chemical plants, onshore oil and gas terminals, gas transmission and power stations.

Reader Reply Card No ATEX Approved Ethernet Extender

Extronics (UK) a leading supplier and manufacturer of intrinsically safe and explosion-proof electrical and electronic equipment, has launched the A290001 Zone 1 and 21 POE/ Ethernet Extender. Extronics POE/ Ethernet Extender is ATEX certified and doubles, triples or even quadruples the normal 330ft (100m) CAT5 cable run length for 100BaseT networks. It forwards both Ethernet and POE for another 330ft (100m) using a patent-pending power-processing scheme and multiple units can be employed in series for even longer distances, with no degradation in network speed or latency.

The A290001 itself is powered by a POE network switch (or POE injector) hence requires no separate power connection in the middle of the cable. This makes it extremely easy to connect and power IP cameras or Access Points located two or three times further away than previously possible without going to fibre or installing midspan power sources.

Installation couldn't be simpler, there is no set-up or configuration required and the only connections are the two network cables allowing instant operation of the A290001! No network set-up is necessary as A290001 does not use a MAC or IP address and is undetectable to other network devices.

For installations that reach beyond 200 metres, it is possible to connect two or more A290001's in a chain, with up to 100 metres of cable between each A290001 or device. Links may be extended up to 1000 metres in this way, depending on the power requirements of the connected POE devices and other factors.

Using the A290001 in your installation brings the benefits of POE to the whole site. Most significantly, mains power installation is not required for remote switches or network devices such as IP cameras. Installation costs become more predictable, as the A290001 offers a fast and low-cost solution to underestimated cable lengths or changes to equipment locations. The A290001 is fully transparent which means that there are no restrictions on data traffic.

Your Life-Safety Solution 23

Wolf Safety (UK) has launched the Wolf LED Floodlite, a high performance, low maintenance, ATEX compliant Hazardous Area Floodlite, using high output, high efficiency LEDs and designed to be transportable specifically for use in temporary applications and installations.

The Wolf WF-300 LED Floodlite range is CE marked to the ATEX Directive for use in Zone 1 and 2 potentially explosive gas and dust atmospheres, with 48 ultra bright high power LEDs producing 3,300 lumens of brilliant white light, brighter than a 200 watt halogen incandescent lamp. Cable powered from voltages of 100 to 254V AC or 24 to 48V AC/DC, the Lamp has low power consumption at 58 watts, is T4 rated and has a low enclosure surface temperature, eliminating the risk of burns.

Supplied as standard with 20 metres of SY Cable, ATEX plug, and integral stainless-steel stand; the LED Floodlite can also be fitted with an ATEX socket, to allow the lamps to be linked together for quick and easy setup of multiple LED units in temporary installations.
