Highly Versatile CHN Analyser
Desorption/Extraction Autosampler
CDS Analytical (USA) introduced the TDA-9300 Thermal Desorption/Extraction Autosampler which is capable of running straight sorbent tubes or doing dynamic headspace earlier this year. Temperatures are programmable to 375º C. This unit is perfect for desorbing sorbent tubes for hydrocarbons in air, or doing emissions studies on solids or viscous liquids. This unique autosampler is able to handle tubes from 3” to 7 1/2” long and with ODs of 3mm to 16mm. High temperature capabilities allow thermal desorption/extraction of high boiling compounds like PAHs and PCBs.
Additional features include the ability to add dynamic headspace stations, a sample saver and peltier cooling capabilities. The sample saver allows the split and recollection of samples for additional analysis or archiving. The newly introduced optional headspace station allows for dynamic headspace analysis in a 10 ml culture tube on the same unit that is running thermal desorption tubes. The unit features computer control, automatic leak checking, rapid heat rates, and interchangeable stations providing the most flexibility on the market.
With its wide linear range, combined static and dynamic combustion technology and horizontal furnace design allowing for removal of residues between runs, the Exeter Analytical (USA) CE-440 CHN/O/S elemental analyser is uniquely capable of accurately analysing the widest range of sample types - quickly, easily and reliably.
Whether you are analysing organic compounds,
pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, polymers, refractory, environmental or natural materials (soil, plants or insects), determining the percentage Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen and Sulphur in your sample is a basic and essential need.
Employing the combined combustion technique makes it possible for the CE-440 to analyse any sample type, from volatiles to difficult to combust materials including nitrides, graphite fibres, ceramics and even carbides with melting points of over 2000°C.
Offering unmatched operating accuracy and precision the fully automated CE440 delivers simultaneous CHN analysis in less than 5 minutes and Oxygen and Sulphur in only 6 minutes - increasing the productivity of your laboratory.
Low gas and reagent consumption combined with high reduction tube life allows the CE440 to deliver some of the lowest operating costs of any CHN/O/S elemental analyser available. Intuitive Windows based operating software reduces human errors through incorporation of extensive automation, comprehensive customer help and diagnostic facilities. Most parts on the CE440 are user replaceable further reducing operating costs and downtime.

New Particle Shape Classifier, Particle Counter and Viscometer
QinetiQ North America today announced that wholly owned subsidiary Spectro Inc. (USA) is introducing the SpectroLNF Q200, the next generation of its successful LaserNet Fines particle shape classifier and particle counter. SpectroLNF Q200 is an analytical instrument that uses a laser direct imaging technique and advanced image processing software to identify the type, rate of production and severity of mechanical faults by measuring the size distribution, rate of progression and shape features of wear debris in lubricating fluids.
SpectroLNF Q200 represents a new generation of particle shape classifiers and counters. Its enhanced features include added capability to measure dynamic viscosity, a faster CCD camera to reduce analysis times, an ergonomic sipper design, and improved maintainability.
Machine condition monitoring based on oil analysis is an accepted practice in predictive maintenance programs. Knowledge of particle generation in terms of size, quantity and the type of wear represents is a tremendous advantage in determining whether the equipment is operating correctly or needs corrective maintenance to avoid failures or costly downtime. The new option to simultaneously analyze viscosity provides another important parameter related to the fluid’s ability to lubricate the mechanical system from which the sample was taken.
Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense Systems in cooperation with the Naval Research Laboratory of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) developed the SpectroLNF Q200 for Spectro as part of ONR’s Accelerated Capabilities Initiative for Condition-Based Maintenance.
