The line comprises a paperboard line, PM28, a fibreline including a G3 Continuous Cooker, and a bleached chemi-thermo mechanical pulp (BCTMP) line, with start-up scheduled for the second quarter of 2023. The first phase of the project
that started in 2019 involved construction of the PM27 fibre line to produce non-bleached pulp integrated to a kraftliner and white kraftliner paper machine, to be sold under the Eukaliner brand, with annual capacity of 450,000 tons. The PM27 line is still under construction.

In this second phase, the BCTMP and fibre lines will be integrated with the new board making line PM28, which will be a so-called flex machine. The machine will produce a large variety of board grades from kraftliner to coated boards such as folding box boards (FBB) and liquid packaging boards (LPB) with a reservation to add
Improved moisture profiles for Arkhangelsk’s board machine
Quality control systems and a moisturiser are being supplied by Valmet to Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill at Novodvinsk in Russia. The new systems, an IQ Quality
Control System and an IQ Moisturizer, will be installed on the BM1 board machine to improve overall quality of the cardboard and the cross-directional moisture profile.
The Moisturizer combines
staggered nozzle rows, patented nozzle technology and extremely precise electromechanical actuator which reflects to customer
process as optimum performance, reliability and transparency. Nozzle pattern layout and nozzle design guarantees full coverage of the web with precision to correct even smaller scale moisture issues. “Thanks to the excellent
cooperation from the customer side, we utilised data from the production line and simulated the initial situation with Valmet IQ Moisturizer and determined together what kind of solution would help the customer best in improving their end-result,” says Dmitri Troshin, sales director in Russia for automation at Valmet.
bio-barrier grades to the portfolio in the future.
The 9,000mm wide (wire) machine will produce high quality kraftliner, liquid packaging board and folding box board grades with a design basis weight range of 150-350 g/sqm. The design speed of the machine will be 1,200 m/ min giving a production capacity of
460,000 tonnes a year. Francisco Razzolini, director of industrial technology, innovation, sustainability and projects, and pulp business officer at Klabin, commented: “Over the last year, we have evaluated trends and market conditions to ultimately reach this decision of PM28. The packaging board segment offers a huge growth potential, driven primarily by the potential substitution of single-use plastics with more sustainable options. “We see an opportunity to
create even more value for Klabin, reinforcing our business model, which is integrated, diversified and flexible. After the ramp-up of PM28, Klabin is set to become one of the leading virgin fibre coated boards and kraftliner producers in the world.”
Ninth Valmet tissue line for Turkey’s Hayat Kimya
Another tissue line is being supplied by Valmet to Turkish tissue producer Hayat Kimya for its new mill in Russia, with start- up planned for 2022. The TM10 line, the ninth
ordered by Hayat Kimya from Valmet, will have a width of 5.6 metres and a design speed of 2,100 m/min and add 70,000 tons a year to its current production of facial, toilet and towel tissues. The TM9 line is already being installed in Russia. Hayat Kimya previously installed
seven Valmet Advantage DCT 200TS tissue production lines to its mills in Turkey, Russia and Egypt. “Our ambition is to continuously
improve our performance with each installation, and the Advantage DCT technology is certainly supporting that target. Together with Valmet, we have established an efficient way of working and have been able to reach very smooth and fast start-ups. Ever since the start- ups, we have been running the machines at constant high speed and efficiency,” says Lütfi Aydin, director of the paper group at Hayat Kimya. The new production line, using
virgin fibre as raw material, will be optimised to save energy and to enhance the quality of the final product.
