Closing the link between electric motors and smart factories

n a move that is said to close the gap between electric motors and smart factories, ABB has

launched Novolink modules for AF contactors that are fully compatible with B&R PLCs and Automation Studio, the integrated software environment used by many advanced machine builders. Novolink connects electrical

motors into higher-level automation and smart factory systems, giving customers real- time data and analytics used to improve operational efficiency and to help implement energy saving strategies. Pietro Esposto, global product

group manager for ABB’s Motor Starting & Safety business, says: “The launch of these Novolink devices shows why ABB is a leading technology partner for machine builders as they expand their smart manufacturing capabilities. Novolink is the only solution to offer the highest levels of out-

device snaps on and retrofits readily to existing 24V DC coil contactors of the AF range. Data from contactors, the motor and connected loads is said to integrate seamlessly into the B&R Automation Studio. Programming is simple

Valmet launches Maintenance Operations Agreement

New service agreements have been launched by Valmet for the development and outsourcing of mill and plant maintenance operations. The Maintenance Operations

Agreement will make a site run at its best throughout the lifecycle, allowing energy, pulp, paper, board or tissue customers to focus on their core business,

says Valmet. Timo Harjunpää, director of

maintenance operations and development, part of services at Valmet, commented: “We want to ensure the maximal reliability and optimised performance of our customers’ production processes. “Together with customers, we set up a maintenance operation

dream team with modern maintenance processes and a mindset committed to safe and more sustainable maintenance operations to meet the customer’s targets on site. “In brownfield cases,

we can help customers to reduce maintenance costs by approximately 10 to 20 per cent and increase efficiency by 5 to 10

with all the data available from a single feeder node making it easy to customise protection functions to the needs of the application.

per cent. With a new investment, we help to secure a world class start-up curve and accelerate the return on the investment. We will establish a maintenance management model and organisation already before the start,” Harjunpää says. Valmet’s typical service

agreements range from corporate-level frame agreements to mill-level partnership agreements. Contact Timo Harjunpää by telephone at 358 40 824 4253.
