PATRICIA “Pat” Webber (92) who has died in Salisbury, Wiltshire, was a former resident of Barming.
Born Patricia Mabb in Glebe Lane, she began work as a secretary and audio typist working for companies including Stewart Wrightson in the Queens Road area. Pat married John
Edward Webber, from Dulwich, after
the couple met at a dance. John was a carpenter who had also served in the Metropolitan Police and worked locally for a building contractor. The couple raised son Jonathan, living in Barming from the early 1960s until 1999. They loved sailing and were members of the Mote Park Sailing Club. Pat maintained contact with former club members to the end of her life. She had also been a keen cyclist in her earlier years, journeying as far as Wales. She enjoyed walking her boxer dog, and was regularly seen out on Ash Path and Court Lodge Farm.
Son Jonathan said: “My parents moved to be near my family in 1999. My mother had a magnetic personality and could befriend anyone very quickly. “She remained healthy, active and driving to the age of 90 and her ability to overcome adversity remained to the end – she swore but also smiled when she realised the physical effects of a stroke were permanent.” Pat was widowed in 2020 after almost 65
years of marriage. She leaves her son and wider family.

Scotland, where he served as a reghter. He then

Babs had an even larger family of nephews and nieces, and always took an active interest in all aspects of family life. She was a particular favourite with the children, who knew her to be “good fun”. In recent years, a dedicated group of friends, neighbours and family supporters were a major part of her life, enabling Babs to enjoy her life, her home and her garden in good company.
