downsmail.co.uk Pervert had 12,000 illegal pics
CHILD sex offender Terrence Standage used his neighbour's wifi signal to download illegal images of children, a court heard. Standage (61) obtained thou-
sands of images and videos over six years. Officers found evidence he "up- skirted" images of unknown vic- tims on a train and a bus. A Kent Police statement said: "Police investigating suspicious internet activity initially attended an address in Charlton Lane, Maidstone, on January 16, 2019. The occupier revealed Standage had been known to piggyback onto their wifi, prompting officers to visit his property, where they executed a search warrant. "Standage was arrested and

were seized for forensic examina- tion. This led to the recovery of al- most 12,000 illegal images and videos, of which more than 300 were classed in the most serious category."
Standage, pictured, was
charged with four counts of mak- ing indecent images of a child and three counts of outraging public decency. He was also recalled to prison having breached licence terms imposed from previous sex offences. He pleaded guilty at Maidstone
Crown Court and on Wednesday, May 5, he was sentenced to two years and four months' imprison- ment. He was also made subject
to the terms of a sexual harm pre- vention order. DS Dave Shipley, of the pae-
dophile online investigation team, said: "Standage has a lengthy his- tory of offending and despite pre- vious convictions has made sustained and extensive efforts to obtain and view abhorrent mate- rial on the internet involving the sexual abuse of children. "His calculated use of someone else’s wifi has demonstrated his determination to access illegal im- ages undetected. “The material Standage down- loaded will have resulted from real children suffering appalling abuse.
‘Ban dangerous sky lanterns’
SKY lanterns should be banned be- cause of their danger to rural busi- nesses and residents, according to a landowners' body. The Country Land & Business As- sociation (CLA) says the govern- ment's stance on outlawing the naked flame, airborne lamps is out of line with other countries. Eighteen national organisations, including the CLA and farming, en- vironment, animal and fire organi- sations, have written to the minister urging them to be made illegal. They argue by enacting Section
140 of the Environmental Protec- tion Act 1990, the Secretary of State can prohibit or restrict the importation, use, supply or storage

of injurious substances or articles, such as sky lanterns. Currently, 152 local councils have already banned the release of
sky lanterns on council property, but with no national legislation, the countryside and our farms re- main unprotected. CLA president Mark Bridgeman
said: “Put simply, there is no re- sponsible way to use sky lanterns. Releasing a naked flame into the skies, having absolutely no control where it will fall, can pose a signifi- cant risk to livestock, wildlife, the environment, and rural businesses. “The CLA has been campaigning
for a complete ban for many years. It’s imperative that government listens to the concerns of those liv- ing in the countryside and bans sky lanterns once and for all.” Picture by Leon Contreras @lc_photography
