deputy mayor after taking over the role from Cllr Wendy Hinder who died last year. Cllr Steve Munford said the mother of two was “born for the role” and joked she had spent “most of her life in a town hall”. Cllr John Perry described Cllr Gooch as “one of the most posi- tive people you will ever meet” whilst former leader Cllr Martin Cox said she “harbours Maid- stone in her very soul”. Cllr Gooch, who has spent much of her working life in local government, joined Barming Parish Council in 1997 and has been chairman since 2002. She started her working life at

News Face to face

with your GP FACE-to-face appointments across Maidstone and the rest of Kent are now almost back to pre COVID-19 levels – and patients will be seen by health professionals.

But to make sure patients get the right care from the right profes- sional quickly, the triage system will remain in place.

Dr Navin Kumta, clinical chair- man of the NHS budget-holding Kent and Medway Clinical Com- missioning Group, says over 450,000 patients in Kent and Med- way had a face-to-face appointment with a healthcare professional at a GP practice in March, almost back to the level before the pandemic.

Museum times MAIDSTONE Museum has
