CHA R I T Y NEWS MAKE YOUR OFFER FOR ORIGINAL PAINTING

Yorkshire artist Paul Heeley has donated a piece of artwork to a Lichfield art gallery to help raise money for the Pathway Project.

Paul takes inspiration for his work from his native West Yorkshire and paints in oils to create atmospheric Northern street scenes. Mentored by acclaimed Bradford artist Bob Barker, Paul began painting 14 years ago after purchasing one of Bob’s paintings. After a year of tuition he went on to win his first ever Open Art Competition by public vote and subsequently staged a charity exhibition raising money for a local children’s hospice.

His original work is available at the Courtyard Fine Art Lounge in Lichfield and as a thank-you to gallery owner Amanda, Paul has donated a recent piece, ‘My Space’ to the gallery for its chosen charity.

Pathway offers help to victims of domestic and sexual abuse and is based in Lichfield and Tamworth, offering a range of support services as well as running two refuges.

Pathway has been the gallery’s chosen local charity since it launched in 2018 and Amanda hopes this gifted artwork will help her to raise vital funds on their behalf.

She is taking offers on the stunning painting until July 31 and the painting will be awarded to the highest bidder with all proceeds going to the charity.

To make a bid call the gallery on 01543 416572 or email amanda@thecourtyardfineartlounge.co.uk

FIRM BACKS LOCAL CAUSES

Midlands-based law firm Thursfields has announced the five local causes that will all be receiving fundraising and volunteer support in the coming year.

After receiving more than 100 applications, staff at the law firm voted to select a new charity for each of its five offices. They are: Birmingham Dogs Home, based in Solihull, Father Hudson’s Care, a social care agency in Birmingham, Friends of Alfie Johnson, a charity helping children with disabilities in Kidderminster, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, based in Stourbridge, and St Paul’s Hostel for the homeless, in Worcester.

The successful charities will be Thursfields’ chosen charities from 1 May to 30 April 2022.

Thursfields’ chairman Nick O’Hara said: “We’re committed to the communities that we live and work in and always take great pleasure in choosing and serving five different local charities every year.

“This is an even more important commitment in the next 12 months as the world emerges from COVID-19, because the fundraising of so many charities has been hit by the pandemic.”
