teammates, her dedication to giving 100 per cent whether it be during practice or games helps bring out the best of everyone on whichever team she was on. “During the COVID lockdowns, Payton regularly


checked on the mental wellbeing of all her team- mates and even helped to organize team Zoom meetings for everyone to laugh and reconnect.This year was a difficult year for athletics and athletes, especially if you are graduating, yet Payton didn’t allow the restrictions to define her and still commit- ted 100 per cent to her and the team’s development and physical wellbeing,”said Scott Reiling, vice-presi- dent of VHS.“Even in the current situation, Payton works hard to find opportunities to get involved and give back to the people around her.” As a caring, compassionate leader within the Vauxhall community, she dedicates plenty of her


ringing a smile and leading by example in everything she does, Payton Sandau has all


time to the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball and to many other areas across Vauxhall High School includ- ing serving on the student council, volunteering at tournaments and helping out wherever she can. Walking the halls, it’s rare you find her without a smile and she’s a well- loved member of the student body within the walls of VHS. Academically, Sandau has contin-


ued to impress throughout her courses as she maintains an average of better than 90 per cent. While Sandau contributes to the community in a variety of ways, she’s


never in search of the spotlight or recognition for her efforts. “Despite the number of disappointments this past


year has dealt, Payton continues to be a ray of sun- shine. She walks in daily with a smile and cheerful comment,”said Lynda Unruh,VAB secretary.“Payton is dedicated in everything she does whether it be her commitment to excelling at school with honour roll distinction or learning how to master the photo- copier in the office. No task is too small or too large to ask of her and she is always willing to do it with a positive attitude.Payton is a great volunteer and one of those students we can always rely on for a helping hand in any activity we host at the school or in the community.”
