munity leader,Cassidy Phillips is a natu- ral APEX Youth Award nominee. As one of the first members of the
N
Taber Youth Do Crew when it first launched in May 2019, Phillips has dedi- cated over 95 hours to the service since its inception, which is more than any other member.
Helping out with activities such as the
Town of Taber’s Halloween Howl event in 2019, volunteering with The Yard YQL to help children develop physical litera- cy skills, handing out s’mores at the Winter Festival, and serving breakfast to students at
St.Patrick Elementary School, she’s been a shining light in the community. “Cassidy is a natural leader who makes a conscious
effort to improve the lives of others in her community. Often arriving early to Do Crew programs,Cassidy always greets her peers with a genuine, warm welcome and gets along well with everybody,”said Shannon Rawluk,Youth Do Crew coordinator.“Cassidy’s most valuable contribu- tions to any team are her abilities to think outside of the box and energize her peers to complete the tasks they set out to accomplish.” After graduation this spring, she has her sights set on
ever one to back away from a challenge, and with a clear understanding of what it means to be a com-
attending post-secondary school at the University of Edmonton this fall in order to achieve her goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. Several years ago, she suffered a meniscus injury that resulted in perma- nent damage to her knee, but despite the setback, Phillips showed determi- nation by putting more emphasis on community engagement. While the injury did limit some of her
involvement in local hockey, soccer, basketball and badminton programs, she instead took advantage of volun- teer opportunities within Taber. “Every challenge that Cassidy
encounters, she does so with an awesome attitude and a
smile.Cassidy has demonstrated a commitment to bet- tering the lives of those in our community, from our youth when she donates her time, to events like the haunted house at Halloween or s’mores at the Winter Festival, to making sure seniors in the community were also taken care of during the difficult time of COVID. Cassidy has proven herself as an exceptional member of our school community and the community of Taber as a whole,”said Hawley Lequiere, a teacher at
St.Mary’s School. Following graduation from post-secondary school, Phillips’dream is to become a Disney Imagineer.
