IPSE UPDATES HALL OF FAME
he ISPE AGM and Awards took place, virtually, before Christmas via on-line links.
At the start of the meeting, Philip
Barlow, FISPE, of Philip Barlow Swimming Pools was inaugurated at the new ISPE President. Phil then oversaw the proceedings for the AGM before, as is traditional, announcing the ISPE Awards for 2020. The first award a new Institute
President makes is to the Immediate Past-President and Phil presented (virtually) Colin Day, FISPE, with a Gold ISPE Past-President’s badge. Phil assured Colin that he would hand one to him whenever they next met. The Gartside Cup, for the ‘Student of
the Year’, is presented to the student who achieved the highest overall marks in the examinations. Phil offered congratulations to the winner for 2020, Ashley Head, TnISPE(Cert.), from Poolstore UK Ltd. The Jim Johnson Filtration Shield may be awarded either for a Technical Paper, or Seminar presentation, on the subject of filtration, or, to the student that submits the best examination paper on that subject. For 2020, it
was awarded for an excellent Filtration examination paper and Phil was delighted to again congratulate Ashley Head on winning this award with an amazing Filtration exam paper, scoring an incredible 98%. The two replica trophies were posted to Ashley after the event. To conclude the 2020 awards, there
was one Fellowship to announce. Phil continued: “The recipient is well known to many in the pool trade and is, in all senses of the word, a large character within the industry. “He has delivered numerous
technical presentations in his specialist fields at ISPE Seminars and at SPATEX and is a regular contributor to the ISPE Magazine. “He was invited to join the Institute
Council in recent years and is the only person to have followed in his father’s footsteps in that position. I am delighted to award a Fellowship to Jimmy Lamb.” Jimmy had no idea about this
surprise award and thanked Phil and the Council. Phil said that he looked forward to congratulating Jimmy when they next meet and added that

Jimmy’s Fellowship certificate and silver ISPE lapel badge was on its way to him.
Phil thanked everyone for tuning
in to the meeting and hoped that everybody would keep safe before the next opportunity everyone has to meet again.

around the restrictions currently in place and that may be in place, it will not be possible for us to hold the ISPE Student Exams in March 2021, as planned.
