DECEMBER 2020 THE RIDER /3 Canada Diversity, Inclusion And Equality Community Feedback Forums

Ottawa, ON, Nov. 13, 2020 – Equestrian Canada (EC) is working to become a more diverse, inclusive and equitable or- ganization, with the long-term goal of fully integrating these values into Cana- dian equestrian sport at large. We want to hear from you on how

we can best achieve this goal. Please reg- ister for the opportunity to join an online forum facilitated by Grace McDonell, an Associate at Fasken law firm and LGBTQ2S+ advocate, to share your thoughts on the state of Canadian eques- trian sport and what EC can do to im- prove in the aforementioned areas. The feedback shared during these

sessions will be used to guide EC’s analy- sis of how we can improve our organiza- tional architecture, programs and services to provide a safe and welcoming sport en- vironment for all. It is critical that this in- depth review is guided and informed by the lived experiences of Canadian eques- trians and sport participants. These fo- rums are a valuable step in the ongoing conversation with the community that EC is dedicated to continuing moving for- ward.

In order to facilitate constructive

conversation, forums will be limited to 15 of people with a maximum of five fo- rums schedule for 1.5 hours for this first step. Priority for participation will be given to people who identify as Black, Indigenous or People of Colour (BIPOC),

son GS (Humble GS x Voltaire), whom she co-owns with her friend and sup- porter, Charlotte Schickedanz of Schickedanz Galten Farms. Phoenix and the nine-year-old Trakehner gelding started off in 18th place after posting 37.50 penalty points in the dressage phase. They eventually climbed their way to sixth after a clear show jumping round and 20.40 cross-country time penalties, ending on a final score of 57.90 penalty points. “I’m extremely proud of our results

at Tryon,” said Phoenix. “It’s been such an odd year because of the pandemic, so to finish two horses in the top 10 among a field of top-caliber horses and riders confirmed that the training and compet- ing we’ve done at home in Canada is working. None of this is possible with out our incredible support team of owners, grooms, coaches, farriers and vets. They all play a crucial role and we are so thankful for each and everyone of them.” The success continued in the CCI

3*-L division with Jamie Kellock of Cedar Valley, ON, who is a key pillar of support on Team Phoenix and sister to Canadian Dressage Team athlete, Lind- say Kellock. Kellock and Summer Bay, her 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse geld- ing, posted a score of 33.00 penalty points to finish in ninth place. Phoenix commented, “To see my

students, Jamie and Hannah Bundy [who finished 21st in the CCI 3*-L with Lovely Assistant], excel in their divisions with stand-out results was so rewarding! Go Canada!” Tik Maynard, who resides in Citra,

FL, also represented the red and white at the MARS Tryon International Three- Day Event. He placed seventh in the CCI 2*-L division on a final score of 32.10 penalties for his first international level appearance aboard Galileo, a nine-year- old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Richard Maynard. Equestrian Canada (EC) wishes to

thank Sport Canada for its support of ath- letes through the Core Support and Ath- lete Assistance Program, as well as the Canadian eventing community for its on- going support.
