Welcome to Bovey Tracey Carnival 2020

WHAT FUN! Despite the many difficulties faced by the committee last year carnival week was a great success with people enjoying the usual mix of music, quiz night, Sunday Funday, bingo events and an impressive procession through the town on Carnival Day. The exciting news is that we

have a brand new shiny committee! Our new members bring us a wealth of experience and enthusiasm and the future of Bovey Tracey Carnival is bright. Our Facebook community now has 1,542 followers and is growing all the time. Please join us at

www.facebook.com/boveytraceycarnival to stay informed of all the events we stage throughout the year. The annual meeting of 2019 was well attended

and saw a generous donation presented to Dartmoor Search and Rescue (Ashburton) from the fundraising achieved throughout the year. At the time of writing, this year’s chosen charity

has yet to be decided but we hope to be just as effective with our fundraising efforts to help another worthy and local cause. In order to achieve this we have already planned some great events to take place during Carnival Week. Picnic in the Park – Our annual outdoor music

event held in Mill Marsh Park. Feel free to bring a simple sandwich, a full picnic, a table and chairs or just a blanket to sit on. The choice is yours. Food vendors and an outside bar are also available. Car Quest – This year will see the return of the

ever- popular Car Quest Challenge. This motorised treasure hunt was designed to take you to local places that you may not have been before. With Climate Emergency in mind, this year’s challenge will be slightly different. The route will be much shorter but the clues will be just as intriguing and

you’ll learn some interesting facts about the area you live in. Suitable for families, couples, singles, just about everyone really. Sunday Funday – Our annual

town fete. Held in Mill Marsh Park where you will find family entertainment, gift and craft stalls, a duck race on the river, an outside bar, food vendors, inflatables, a dog show and the funfair. Quiz night – Held at the Dolphin

Hotel in Bovey. Always great fun and very well attended. Bingo nights – Also held in the function room at the Dolphin Hotel.

Thanks go to Rob for providing the venue for these two very popular events. Summer Ball – A great excuse to get dressed up

and enjoy good music, food and entertainment. This event is now in its third year and not to be missed! Carnival Procession – This is always held on the

first Saturday in August so you can never forget the date. Each year the floats have been more inventive than the last, with walking entries especially growing rapidly in numbers. A fabulous event that fills the town, this is great fun to take part in. More events are being planned at the time of

writing and will be confirmed as time progresses. For the dates and times of the above events, keep a look out for posters in the town or follow the Bovey Tracey Carnival Facebook page. Thanks once again to all the local businesses that

help support the carnival and to the Towt council for providing such a lovely environment in which to hold our events. Finally, our heartfelt thanks go to the dedicated

and hardworking members of the retiring committee who can finally put their feet up for a well-earned rest.

businesses who support carnival week and our Christmas Fayre by advertising in the programme and sponsoring them.
