East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve (NNR) your local temperate rainforest


The word rainforest conjure up visions of the Amazon, but just up the road from Bovey Tracey on the way to Manaton is the temperate rainforest found in the Bovey Valley and at Yarner Wood and are internationally important. Here you will find trees of


different ages, with healthy canopy (top) layer, understory (middle) layer and ground (bottom) layer plus dead standing and lying wood. Within this environment are


the, less seen, smaller plants such as mosses, lichens and ferns. Natural England and the Woodland Trust are working to safeguard these special assemblages by controlling shade casting species particularly younger holly and
