Nanny, 105, celebrates with tea and a hairdo

SHE has seen 26 prime ministers and five British monarchs, not to mention two world wars during her long life. Emeline Booker, who is known

to all as Nanny, was born in 1915 when the country was sending its youth to war in France. But on Nanny’s 105th birthday,

she was happy to embrace the technology of the 21st century for a FaceTime chat with her son and daughter-in-law. Now living at the Ashley Gar- dens care home in Sutton Road, Maidstone, staff treated her to af- ternoon tea on October 10. Nanny has always lived in Maid- stone, often enjoying family holi- days to Cornwall. She also had two brothers, two sisters and married her husband Albert in 1934. Nanny and Albert, who died in 2010, had six children – two daughters and four sons, who she proudly raised throughout the pri- vations of WWII.

Although Nanny was a house- wife for most of her married life, she also worked at Timothy White’s and Kimberley Clark. During her birthday celebra- tions, Nanny had her hair done by the staff and enjoyed a birthday sing-a-long

with a birthday cake and tea.

Ashley Gardens manager Jo Mazza said: “We are so delighted

wonderful

to have shared Nanny’s lovely birthday celebration. “It was wonderful to see her spend so much time ‘remotely’ with her family, which she really enjoyed, then we were thrilled to spoil her with some pampering and a delicious cake. On behalf of everyone at the home, we’d like to wish Nanny a very happy birth- day.”
