Winners hope poster will boost NHS staff
A BROTHER and sister are re- gional winners of a competition designed to encourage youngsters to consider a career with the NHS. Austin Smith (11) and sister Vi- olet (9), of West Malling, who atten Sutton Valence Preparatory School, won vouchers for their poster describing NHS roles. They won the Kent, Surrey & Sussex region in the Step Into The NHS primary schools competi- tion.
Some 1,871 entries from more
than 3,000 pupils in 273 primary schools in England took part. Violet said: “We enjoyed work-
ing together to create our poster and were amazed at how many jobs there are in the NHS. There are lots more than we thought.” Head teacher Claire Corkran added: “I am extremely proud of all our pupils, who learned a great deal when preparing their entries, and who embraced the
competition with great interest and enthusiasm.” Dr Navina Evans, chief execu-
tive of Health Education England, said: “This year’s entries have been superb – imaginative, fun and thought-provoking – and I am absolutely delighted to con- gratulate Violet and Austin and,
indeed, all our winners.” Developed with teachers, the Step Into The NHS website in- cludes a careers quiz, stories from NHS staff, work experience tips and learning resources to help young people explore the hun- dreds of roles within the NHS:
