T
he Marlake Equestrian Dressage competition, organised by Emma Richardson-Steele, was held on Sunday 27th September at Manor Farm, Murcott. The weather was kind and the winds died down, and riders enjoyed a full day of test riding in the glorious sunshine against the backdrop of Otmoor, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Fiſty horses and riders competed across four classes. The largest class of the day was the Intro B class with 20 riders competing. For many of the competitors, this was their first competition and they benefited enormously from the friendly support and guidance from the stewards on site.
The final class of the day was the Novice class, won by Hannah Honour riding Benneton, second was Toddy Hamilton-Gould riding Cookie. Toddy has recently moved to the area and this was her first visit to Marlake Equestran Events Dressage at Manor Farm, Murcott
Competitors were awarded with beautiful oval, three tier rosettes which were made by show organiser Emma Richardson-Steele who makes rosettes and sashes under the Marlake Rosettes name.
Emma said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people whom without their support, the event would not have been possible. Thank you to Stephen Whidborne for the use of venue. Thanks must also go to our judges Lyndsay Gammon, writer Amanda Geday, scorer
Diane Lodoski-Hilsdon and stewards Harriet T urner and
Samantha Woods. Finally, I must thank all those competitors, parents, riders and helpers who were in attendance and all who maintained social distancing as required at the event, without their support the event would not run.
”
Joanne Webster competed alongside her daughter Poppy and said “it was an impeccably run show, everyone was so friendly and helpful and personally I also loved having such a good big space to warm up - thank you all.”
Racheal Smith: “Thank you for such a lovely show. Everyone was so friendly and supportive which is just what my daughter Eliza needed being her first dressage show. She is now definitely hooked and was absolutely delighted to get a beautiful rosette.
”
Hannah Honour “I have owned Ben for 5 years. He is a former Ex Masters Hunt horse that I have been retraining to do dressage. We have been doing online dressage and train- ing with Ian Cast through Covid times and was fantastic to do a proper dressage show and to win both out Prelim and Novice class.
”
Marlake Events plan to run a summer dressage league next year with four shows in May, June, July & September along with a separate midweek early evening dressage series on Thursday evenings.
