Murcott Horse & Pony Show Sunday 20th September 2020
Report by Emma Richardson-Steele
must confess to being on tenterhooks the week prior to the show and closely following the Government's guide- lines on sporting events. Thankfully, we were able to go ahead as planned. We welcomed 67 horses and riders taking part in 23 classes (a total of 140 entries!) to Manor Farm which had been turned into a showground for the day and, to top it all, we had glorious sunshine which makes such a difference at a show. I'm sure it brings smiles with it and the horses coats gleam in the sun.
I
Competitors were so considerate, following the strict guide- lines in place; many of them attending their first show of the season, and a few taking part in their first show ever! My team of judges were just brilliant and we have received super feedback regarding their encouragement and tips for improvement.
Murcott Horse & Pony Show was set up to give grass roots riders an opportunity to show at local level. We are a very friendly group of like-minded people with the future of showing for the next generation at heart. Many shows have ceased running in this area for various reasons, we are very grateful for the support we receive from sponsors and competitors alike.
An enormous thank you goes to my amazing team: Judges: Roger Edmunds, Jane Harper, Tanya Guest & Colleen Baker. The stewards: Thomas & Penny Harper who were so enthusiastic and willing to run the length of the lorry park many times to find competitors to ensure they didn't miss classes. My 'behind the scene' helpers: Helen Day, Keeley North, Yvonne Hatwell, Diane Hilsdon, & Kirstie-Maria Haley, who helped with setting up the showground, taking down fencing, setting up the showground and re-fencing the paddocks aſter the show.
The caterers were Little Oaks of Gawcott (Caroline Ann Tofield) who provided the most amazing breakfast and lunch menu from their converted horsebox and vintage Landrover. Also this year, we welcomed Jill Clements and her newly converted horsebox which now serves as a bar! Both were so well
suited to the show and highly recommended if you are planning an event in the new future (we can only hope!)
To comply with Government Guidelines and to provide a reliable Track & Trace facility, only pre-entries were accepted using an online entry booking system by Showing Scene. I worked closely with Natalie from Showing Scene who has been so helpful. It's quick and easy for both show organisers and competitors; it also enabled me to provide estimated start times for each class. Moving forward, all future shows will be using this system with only entries taken on the day from competitors who have entered other classes.
Thank you also to our sponsors, many who are Murcott residents, who provide financial help with the costs of putting on a show. It makes such a difference and enables us to provide amazing rosettes for our competitors. It's a lot of hard work preparing a horse or pony for a show and it's great to be able to reward them with a beautiful rosette. I am so sorry we couldn't invite you to watch the show and to sample the amazing catering and the new Gin & Prosecco Bar this year due to the Covid-19 Government Guidelines but we hope you can join us next year. Your support is very much appreciated by so many.
