On April 8 of this year, Nashville, Tennessee-based Contractors & Industrial Supply, Inc. (CIS) celebrated its 50th anniversary. Since 1970, when Hank Schiller founded the company, CIS Rigging has evolved itself to the point that, today, the company specializes in practical, common-sense rigging and crane solutions for the international manufacturing, construction, steel, marine, electrode handling, and light & sound industries.

Steadily built around the needs and expectations of its customers, CIS has also realized a notable reputation for innovating additional products and services along the way. Tat commitment reveals itself in offerings ranging from rigging and lifting-application tools (including custom-fabricated wire rope) to hoists to alloy chain sling assemblies, fall-protection devices, and crane and rigging systems—all professionally engineered to meet the highest OSHA-compliant safety certifications and ANSI/ASME standards. On the service side, product development specialists conduct site surveys to determine a customer’s exact product needs, and develop personalized custom solutions—while also offering equipment-safety inspections and repair, safety training, destructive and load testing, and even consulting. “Te wire rope product that my father started off with early in his career is still one of our main products,” said President Tom Schiller, Hank’s son. “And we’re a complete rigging shop—heavily focused on railroads, heavy construction, utilities, and pulp and paper.” To that end, it’s anything but a shotgun approach for CIS, according to Schiller. “It’s very specific, and within this division—something that my father started in 1977—is Crane & Rigging Consultants, Inc.
