2021 Business and Leadership Development Conference DESTINATION: NEW

ORLEANS by Barbara Tiseo, Meeting & Event Planner, Investment Casting Institute T

he history of New Orleans, Louisiana traces the city’s development from being founded

by the French, through its period under Spanish control, then briefly back to French control before being acquired by the United States in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. New Orleans was one of the most important port cities in the U.S. at the time. The city allowed access to the Mississippi River, an important route for both transportation and shipping. The French Quarter or Vieux Carré is one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans. This electrifying neighborhood has

something for everyone, from the relaxed vibe of Bourbon Street to the elegance found on Royal Street. The famous Jackson Square landmark, shopping, live music, voodoo temples, Café Du Monde (best beignets I’ve ever had) and the French Market are just a few of the many ventures you can partake in The French Quarter. Be sure to make time to enjoy the stunning architecture of balconies adorned with beautiful ironwork. The French Quarter also boasts gardens and courtyards bejeweled with the most

gorgeous flowers and grounds that nature has to offer. Our event will be held at the Hotel Monteleone, one of the last great family-owned and operated hotels in New Orleans.

Antonio Monteleone,

the original founder, came to America in the late 1800’s. At the time Royal Street was considered the grand street of the “Vieux Carré”. In 1886, Antonio purchased a 64-room French Quarter hotel on the corner of Royal and Iberville streets. When the nearby Commercial Hotel became available for purchase, Antonio acquired that as well, this was the beginning of the amazing historical landmark that Hotel Monteleone is today. Five generations of the Monteleone family have dedicated themselves to making their establishment a sparkling hotel in the heart of the French Quarter. Rightfully referred to as the “Crown

Jewel” of New Orleans the French Quarter is an eclectic blend of old world charm mixed with modern enticements. Like the Creole aristocrats lining the galleries of the Historic New Orleans Collection, the French Quarter is a timeless portrait. Once dusk begins to

settle over the city, St. Louis Cathedral’s crème colored walls reflect the fiery sunset. Ghost tours troop past “Mad” Madame LaLaurie’s mansion, while fortunetellers line the streets waiting for their first read of the evening. Horse hooves clop, music throbs and gaslights flicker in a place full of long-told legends and those still in the making. Now is the time to create one of your own legends in this mystical and magical city that truly has something for everyone.
