A Note From The President Dear TALHFA Members:

Just a few headlines over last few months: Fannie and Fred- die relax appraisal, employment verification standards, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley has issued “Stay at Home” and “Wear a Mask” Executive Orders. Early on, Gov. Greg Abbott issued an order mandating quarantine for anyone flying from New York and now New York has issued a similar order for Texans. And the list goes on…

As we are keenly aware, we are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, COVID-19. Of the 11 million people infected worldwide, over 3 million people are infected in the US and Texas has 210,000 people testing positive for the virus. As we enter the fourth / fifth month of the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas has been locked down, reopened, and considering going into lock down physically, socially, and economically for the second time. “Wear a Mask” and “Social Distancing” are the mantras of most local governments and public health officials. Many TALHFA members and our staffs are still sheltering in place, but housing remains a critical part of our economic and social infrastructure. Executive orders preventing evictions and the deferment of mortgage payments for up to 3 months are ending in the coming months. They have been our primary tools in our arsenal of weapons to combat this crisis; however, rent and mort- gages still must be paid. Tarrant County has set aside over $10 million for rental assis- tance due to COVID-19.

In the months ahead, TALHFA will help lead the way in housing finance for many Tex- ans. We will also come up with creative, innovative financing methods to lead the na- tion in its recovery both from an economic and social perspective. In the meantime, practice social distancing, staying home for movie time and enjoy takeout from your favorite neighborhood restaurant. As I understand, virtual happy hour is a real thing. Most importantly, wear a mask in public, stay safe, and be well.

Sincerely,

Summer 2020

TALHFA
