The Power of Partnerships by Rhonda Mitchell, Southeast Texas HFC

One of the benefits of our TALHFA membership has been the partnerships we have developed with other local HFCs and our many affiliate members. These relationships

are an incredible benefit to Southeast Texas Housing Finance Corporation (SETH).

Our SETH 5 Star and GoldStar Programs are available in many areas across Texas. Our partnership with Freddie Mac’s Affordable Lending Team and Samuel Noel allows us the opportunity to provide educational information about initiatives available to make housing affordable for the workforce in communities across our state.

For 2020, we have identified five target markets for our affordable lending presenta- tions. One of our planned visits this year will be in Lubbock. Shari Flynn, Executive Director of Lubbock Housing Finance Corporation (LHFC), has been a terrific TALHFA member and strong supporter of affordable housing. Rhonda Mitchell, with SETH, will be partnering with LHFC to provide our very special Freddie Mac Expanding Respon- sible Homeownership “Lunch N Learn” for area Realtors and Lenders. The event is scheduled for April and will cover topics including market trends and forecasts, SETH

and LHFC program updates and tools for helping homebuyers in the area. We are looking forward to this event and with Shari’s help, I know it will be huge success.

SETH and Freddie Mac hosted a series of these training events in 2019. We visited Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Austin. Some events were standing room only. This series of presentations was made possible with assistance from our industry partners: Gateway First Bank, Genworth, MGIC, Stifel, US Bank and many of our program lenders.

For our Austin luncheon, we included Jim Shaw, Executive Director of Capital Area HFC and Andrea Shields, Manager of Travis County HFC. In addition to the resources they provided by inviting their Realtor and Lender contacts, they shared program information and valuable program updates with the group. The partnerships we create allow us even more opportunities to address the needs of our communities and provide the tools necessary to make affordable housing obtainable for everyone.

It has been said that relationships build bridges. If that is true, then partnerships build empires!
