Sonoma County, CA. ~ It seems surreal that it has been five months since we last gathered together. During this time of year, I begin reaching out to all of you to share the excit- ing details of our upcoming season. But the COVID-19 pandemic has placed an intermission on our plans for our upcoming 22nd season. We have been closely following the local health department and CDC to navigate a path forward to return to our concert hall; but at this mo- ment we are still uncertain when we can be reunited. During this unprece-

dented time, we are hard at work exploring new

ways to connect with you until we can be safely gathered together. When the shelter in place or- ders began, members of our board of directors quickly responded to help support professional Bay Area musicians who sud- denly found themselves unemployed due to the pandemic. Our sister or- ganization, Music in Place, was then created to pro- vide these artists with tech training, equipment and production support in order to produce high-quality live stream concerts. To date, Music in Place has helped many musicians create amazing performances in order to gain financial sup-

port during this difficult pe- riod. To learn more about our sister organization Mu- sic in Place, please visit There are many wonderful per- formances to watch and brilliant musicians to sup- port!

Over the next several

months, Sonoma County Philharmonic and Music in Place will collaborate to bring your community or- chestra directly to you. We are working to create small chamber performances to stream live to you so that, by the end of summer we will be virtually reunited with you. Our hope is to be able to continue these virtual performances for

ing music together and we very much miss perform- ing for all of you. In the meantime, we hope that you and your families stay safe and healthy. We look forward to the time when we all can be reunited in the Jackson Theater. Until then please join us in our virtual concert hall and en- joy the power and beauty of music.

Beer was the first legal alcoholic beverage to be sold when prohibition was repealed. Beer was legal on April 7, 1933, but other alcoholic beverages could not be legally purchased until December 5, 1933.

Our Final Joke

A husband and wife were browsing in a crafts store when the husband noticed a display of country-style musical instruments. After looking over the flutes, dulcimers and recorders, he picked up a shiny, one-stringed instrument he took to be a mouth harp. He put it to his lips and, much to the amusement of other shoppers, twanged a few notes on it. After watching from a distance, his wife came up and whispered in his ear, “I hate to tell you this, honey, but you’re try- ing to play a cheese slicer.”
