While focused on assisting and honouring veterans, Taber’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch #20 has roots that run deep in the community and it supports many other local initiatives. “Our Legion mandate, of course, is veteran support,” said president Abe Andres.“And we support Wounded Soldier and other region-sponsored events, functions. We support the schools by doing the literacy and poem projects,and members’ services and other stuff. We hand out requests to all the schools in Taber, and

then there’s a contest,and they can win some cash money towards scholarships, and that’s dominion-wide across Canada. In fact, several of our local students have won and gone to dominion (finals) in Ottawa. Our local students really support the Remembrance Day program that the Legion sponsors.” This support extends to some of the facilities in the community that are utilized by citizens and youth.
