Elido E. (Tito) Perini: Served with the R.C.A.F. Bomber Command as a tail gunner.On Nov. 2, 1944 on his 31st bombing mission, tart of Dusseldorf, his plane was coned by search lights then hit by anti-aircraft fire.The pilot was hit in the chest and Tito was hit by shrapnel in the left foot.The plane was going down,Tito bailed out and was captured immedi- ately.He was taken to a German Air Force Base in Darmund and there confined for eight days.The fourth day was the most memorable as he was interrogated by Reich Marshal Herman Goering.He was a P.O.W. for six and a half months, incarcerated in Polish and German Prisoner Camps.He was on the forced march,“Death March” which lasted 24 days under ruthless conditions.This march was from Bankau to Luckenwalde, 30 miles south of Berlin.The P.O.W.’s marched between the Russian advance and the German retreat. Command. On May 19, 1942 his plane was shot down. He bailed out and on landing broke an ankle.He was a P.O.W. from May 25, 1942 through May 29, 1945, mostly in Stalag-Luft.He too was on the force march, the “Death March”.
