Armoury, the Lethbridge Military Museum aims to showcase the mili- tary history of the Lethbridge area, in hopes it will lead to a greater appreciation of the local effort for peace and security around the world. “From my perspective it is a wonderful local museum seeking to

contribute to a better understanding of Lethbridge and area’s proud military contribution for well over 100 years,”said Raymond Romses, retired Brigadier General and chairman of the museum.“In so doing it helps maintain an account of those Lethbridge units and personnel who have served in war and peace and provides a focus for remem- bering those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Canada’s Armed Forces or our Allies.” “The museum aims to promote and exhibit to the public the rich

military history of Lethbridge from 1899 to the present. In doing so it presents documents, artefacts, medals, photos, models, and stories to illustrate this history. The museum also endeavours to promote the collection and preservation of military artifacts which are of historical significance to Lethbridge and area.” The museum’s origins traces back to the Lethbridge Military Unit

Senate Association, which was started in order to promote the local reserve artillery unit, the 20th Independent Field Battery RCA.They had found there was “a real lack of understanding”in the reserve’s history, along with the history of the Army,Navy and Air Force in Lethbridge. To change this, they decided that a museum focusing on local military contributions should be established. In 2010, the Lethbridge Military Museum Committee, made up of local citizens such as officials in other local museums, veterans and a school teacher, was formed, and over the next five years they devel- oped the museum’s governance structure, operating procedures, developed storylines for the museum, conducted research, obtained pictures from archives across the country and fundraised. In April 2015, their hard work paid off as the museum hosted it’s official opening.
