New protection measures for MB92
Extra services at Cesme Marina
T
he MB92 Group has announced that it has re-started activity at both of its facilities in Barcelona
and La Ciotat. Operations, which resumed on 14 April, are to be escalated gradually and involve extremely strict procedures to protect all people entering and operating in the boatyard. These will control all working procedures, as well as the flow and movement throughout the various areas within the sites. CEO and President, Pepe García-
Aubert, stated: “The health and safety of our employees, clients, suppliers and the local community has always been our absolute priority. When we made the difficult decision to suspend activity at our facilities on 16 March, this was done pre-emptively as there was a lack of concrete containment measures established by international organisations or regional and national Governments at that time. Given the significant flow of people into and out of our facilities and the rising number of cases in Europe, the MB92 Group was as prudent as possible to protect
everyone’s health, especially when considering the reduced availability of adequate personal protection at that time”. With signs of improvement in both
Spain and France, and clear guidelines issued by the relevant health authorities, MB92 has sourced all of the necessary personal protective equipment through official channels to begin working again. In addition to this protective equipment, MB92 has also put specific organisational measures in place to reduce contact between everyone operating in the facilities. Therefore, staff who are able to work from home can continue to do so and operations on board are organised in such a way as to reduce contact to a bare minimum while always respecting social distancing measures. Pepe García-Aubert added: “We
have always believed that our ability to adapt to difficult situations and find solutions for our clients was one of the keys to our success. Today, it is thanks to this quality that we will overcome this crisis and be stronger as a result”.
Upgrade for Club de Mar Mallorca
A recent issue of the Majorca Daily Bulletin carried a report that the Club de Mar Mallorca on Palma Bay had finally been given the green light to begin the upgrade that the marina has been preparing to start for the best part of a decade. This was confirmed by Ports de Balears on 20 May.
According to the local lifestyle paper, the original 50-year
concession granted in 1969 had an ‘expiry date’ of 2019 and the authorities certainly appeared to take their time rubber-stamping its renewal. The marina submitted plans for a comprehensive 60 million Euros make-over back in 2014, with a view to starting construction work in 2018, but the powers-that-be didn’t sign
off an extension until October, 2017 – even then, only 25 years until 2044. Groundworks clearly weren’t going
to start in 2018 and then there was the minor matter of a global pandemic to contend with, but now work can finally begin on creating a new version of Mallorca’s well- established Club de Mar.
MARINA INDUSTRY • JUNE 2020
A skeleton workforce has continued to ensure the safety and security of berth-holders’ boats at Cesme Marina, which is operated by Camper & Nicholsons Marinas in Turkey. Rules and regulations around health and safety at the marina will continue to be closely monitored during the coronavirus pandemic by consolidating Government advice and implementing further disinfection, cleaning, fire prevention, social distancing and PPE requirements. Cesme Marina has also adopted
some extra services at the marina and now offers the following: three- year long-term lease – commit to three years berthing at Cesme Marina and receive a 15% discount on annual berthing fees; a looking- after service – boat-owners can request this service to check and monitor craft throughout the year,
with small maintenance jobs being passed to the on-site boatyard; and pre-check-in service – upon making a booking online, customers can register their information, including insurance, certificate of registry and ID card. The aim is to minimise documentation and save time for guests. Bora Ergezgin, Operations Manager, commented: Cesme Marina has continued operating in a way to protect the health of our employees and customers. When the curfew and quarantine implementations came into place, there were many cancellations for haul-outs and many uncertainties around Spring and Summer cruising plans. This, thankfully, did not last long and Cesme Marina has continued to function according to the Government guidelines and protocol”.
