New Director of METSTRADE


ith more than 15 years of professional experience in various international trade fairs at the RAI Amsterdam and with a great love for water sports, Niels


Klarenbeek (42) succeeded Irene Dros as the new Director of METSTRADE on 14 April, 2020. Niels Klarenbeek has been an avid water sports enthusiast for years and in his spare time loves to sail on the Frisian lakes with his wife and two children. He studied Business Economics at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and has had various roles in sales and business development, including five years working for Aquatech, the world’s leading trade show for process, drinking and wastewater. For the past ten years, Niels has been leading


Rematec, a portfolio serving the automotive parts remanufacturing industry, with trade shows in Amsterdam, Las Vegas and Guangzhou. Under Niels’ lead, Rematec has developed into the world’s most important meeting point for automotive remanufacturing with visitors from over 75 countries. In addition to METSTRADE, Niels will also be closely


involved with IBEX, the marine industry’s largest technical trade event in North America, which is powered globally by METSTRADE. The American event is owned and produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association and RAI Amsterdam. “I have been working closely with Niels for several


years and I have a lot of confidence in him,” said Bas Dalm, Executive Vice-President Exhibition & Sales,

No show for Palma in 2020


The organisers of the 2020 Palma International Boat Show cancelled the event, which was due to have been held at the Moll Vel (Old Quay) in Palma, Mallorca, from 4-7 June. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent state of alarm, and in light of its responsibilities, the organisers decided that it would not be possible to hold the event while ensuring optimum safety conditions for both exhibitors and visitors. The decision was also taken due to their responsibilities towards the marine

reactivate the industry. IDI has decided to return the money that has already been paid by the exhibitors to reserve space at the show in order to aid the companies’ cash flows. From this point on, both IDI and
