RACE FOR WILDLIFE AND VE DAY 75TH ANNIVERSARY FAIR

by Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Fundraising Officer Robert Magee

The Race for Wildlife is Gwent Wildlife Trust's annual day of fundraising races that will take place on Sunday, May 10th this year, from Undy, in the heart of the picturesque Gwent Levels in South East Wales. As Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Fundraising Officer, I’ve been organising it since 2018 and this year it’s all set to be a bigger event, raising even more vital funds to help protect wildlife and wild places in this special corner of Wales. Last year’s event raised over £5,000 to support our appeal to buy nearby Nature Reserve Bridewell Common, with hundreds of runners of all ages taking part and enjoying the glorious sunshine.

We work hard to make it a really inclusive race: there’s a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere with races open to people of all ages and

abilities. The main 10k race has a flat and fully accessible route, making it an ideal race for beginners, wheelchair racers, avid distance athletes, or for those who just fancy helping raise some money for our charity.

There are three races on the day; 10k road race (chip timing new for 2020); 1k timed fun run around the football field (prizes for ages 14 and under) and 100m dash (for children).

To commemorate the VE Day 75th Anniversary, we’re working together with hosts Undy AFC to make Race for Wildlife 2020 a special Remembrance Race. So as well as the usual races, this year's event will include a 1940s themed fair with stall holders
