SUSANNA RICHARDSON HAS EVERYTHING ORGANISED. . .

Susanna is a wedding and event planner who has been responsible for some of the most talked about parties both here and abroad. A former city girl, she's swapped her heels for the Cotswolds and we're delighted that she will be sharing her musings with us each month.

jlomademedoit...

I’m writing this on International Women’s Day, which means two things; 1. The internet is full of women celebrating women, and 2. I’ve left my homework until the school bus so I’m in serious danger of missing my deadline! Not really what you’d expect from someone so wonderfully organised, but sadly the organisation doesn't translate to myself...

I love when women celebrating women. I don’t think there’s much that can’t be achieved by a strong, bad-ass girl on a mission. I remember a really tricky work situation last year, I wasn’t sure if I was strong enough to take it on but my husband turned around to me and said; “you are a really good fighter you know”. He was right, I am a really good fighter. Back me into a corner and I’ll always come out fighting and stand my ground like a stubborn mule. I think I learned that being the youngest (and the only girl) in a family of five. Everything was a fight, a fight for the last potato, a fight for the bathroom and just a general battle for everything.

It’s likely also the reason I’m really noisy and always have been. My mum is selling the family home and she’s been sorting through our childhood belongings and found a box of my old school reports, “Susie is chatty” is a comment that runs throughout each one. Goodness, I must have been a giant pest at school? Actually, if you ask my husband, I probably haven’t changed much.

Chatting is one thing that's got me where I am though - that ability to talk to anyone, to find a common ground has been the foundation of my business. It’s certainly done more for me than Algebra or playing Three Blind Mice on the recorder, so maybe they should teach 'chatty' as part of the curriculum? The negative became my positive.

Talking of women celebrating women, my friends and I have a new hashtag #jlomademedoit which basically translates to anytime we're caught eating a giant plate of pancakes, or spending a Sunday in bed watching movies, we quote this to each other. Why you ask? Well, we’ve realised that no matter how hard we try, we simply won’t ever be the goddess that is JLo. We won’t be pole dancing or rocking a mirrored leotard at the Super Bowl anytime soon, so if we can’t be JLo we're going to go down in flames... hard on the pancakes!

I’m 44 this year and figure I’ve got 6-years to get my ass into gear and start working on those abs. I fear it’s very unlikely to happen but hey, we all need goals right? So JLo watch out, because I’m coming for your goddess title... well, after my next round of pancakes.
