At Hertfordshire Libraries, Audience Development Officer Shirley Everall has won Librarian of the Year in the Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) Industry Awards.
She was also commended for her efforts in promoting romantic fiction in Hertfordshire Libraries, and for hosting a number of events for RNA members.
Head of Libraries and Heritage Services Andrew Bignell, said: “I am delighted that Shirley Everall has been named Librarian of the Year. Her role as Audience Development Officer means she is the driving force behind LitFest; our annual programme of author talks and book-related activities in libraries across the county.”
When former Cambridge University librarian Sarah Stamford found her 1971 diary, when she was a 19-year-old junior secretary at the BBC, she decided to self-publish it. It is full of humorous details of her daily life and a description of a relationship that developed between her and an older Irishman. Secret Diary of a 1970s Secretary (written under the name Sarah Shaw) really took off, and Little Brown published it in hardback last year. Sarah says it’s surprising what can happen when you retire from librarianship!
