Engaging with policy makers

It has been great to get your feedback since the fi rst issue went to press. You’ve told me how much you like the new look and feel of the magazine, the focus on insight and the extra space to really explore in-depth the trends that are shaping the future of our profession. It has been great to see so many of you engaging with the Information Professional app, making our content more accessible than ever. If you’ve not tried the new magazine app yet, why not download it at http://apple.co/2xkkJ7l for Apple devices and at http://bit. ly/2y2P0a9 for Android devices.

W

We’ve also heard that you want us to lead the way in making open access content available for the sector. This is something we’re committed to doing more of in the months ahead, so do watch this space!

In this issue, we’re taking a look at the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Libraries (APPG Libraries), which held its fi rst panel hearing on The Future of Public Libraries at the House of Commons in November (see in-depth news feature on pp. 14-16). The APPG is a vital platform to engage policymakers with our campaigning work – like the recent letter from CILIP Past President Dawn Finch to Secretary of State for Education Justine Greening, which secured more than 150 signatures from leading authors and personalities.

We’re also looking at an update on the interim fi ndings of the Independent Diversity Review of the Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Awards, chaired by Margaret Casely-Hayford (who features on the cover), a distinguished lawyer and chair of international development charity ActionAid UK. This is a great opportunity to learn how we can do more to celebrate and promote diversity and inclusion across all of our work. Read the news story on p. 9.

At CILIP, we’re proud to be the only organisation in the world operating under Royal Charter to unite and support information professionals. Over the next few issues, we’re going to be looking at the life-changing work going on across our profession, as well as the latest in design and innovation.

Wherever you work and whatever your role, there’s something in Information Professional for you!
