Of the hundreds of stories I’ve had the chance to write for books and magazines, Rev. Ghiorghi Cazacu’s life is one of the most moving and remarkable I’ve encountered. Like millions of others, Ghiorghi was a young man who moved to America to make a better life for his family. On the East Coast, he became deeply loved and respected. Because he could not forget the plight of the poor, forgotten and hopeless he had known during his youth.

SO WHEN HE HAD EVERYTHING HE HAD DREAMED OF, HE GAVE IT UP TO GO HOME TO SERVE THOSE WITH NOTHING…NOT EVEN HOPE.

Back in Romania, Ghiorghi could have just preached the Gospel, but he decided his mission was to put the Word into action. With unmatched energy, Ghiorghi sought out the orphans living in inadequate government homes. He gave them food, clothing, boots, coats, acceptance and love. He also found help to upgrade their facilities with needed supplies and equipment.

Ghiorghi then discovered the elderly and frail, often hidden away in nursing
