The Farmers Bloodhounds Opening Meet at Plum Park Farm on 27th October Report by Ginny Oakley Pope, Hon Sec The FBH

Photos taken by Paul Buddin

he Farmers Bloodhounds awoke to glorious weather on 27th October for their Opening Meet at Plum Park Farm. This was a great relief after the extreme rain the day before. Opening Meet is always a special event and more so this year as it marked 10 years of this popular pack being owned, looked after and hunted by Senior Master and Huntsman, Brian Temple. Little did he know that this significant date had not gone unnoticed by his son, fellow Master Jamie and his wife Debbie.

Brian was presented, after a short and heart felt speech by Jamie, with an antique silver hunting horn made in the 1850’s and now engraved with his name. Needless to say, Brian was most surprised and delighted. He was even more pleased when he discovered how much easier it was to use than his old one! Brian went on to thank all those who have assisted with the running of The FBH over the years and to wish everyone a happy day.

The 50 strong followers made their way across the farm in pursuit of the two runners who had set off some 20 minutes earlier. Incorporated in the first line were some of the recent Team Chase fences to be used next year on March 22nd 2020 when this spectacular event takes place for the second time. It was a glorious sight to watch hounds working hard, including new pups entered for their first season, on route to find their human quarry amongst the added scent of the many foot followers. A brief stop with liquid refreshments in the form of orange squash was handed out to the riders by Bee Buddin a staunch supporter whose husband Paul is the resident photographer. The warm weather and thick hunt coats made this thirsty work for the field and the cold drinks were much appreciated.

The second line took hounds and riders away from Plum Park and following another break saw them head back to continue jumping around the wonderful cross-country course.

Celebrations continued in the Function Room afterwards where an enormous and delicious spread had been provided by Brian’s wife Debbie. The FBH team were on hand to serve hot pork rolls, hot drinks and a few pints of beer!

The Farmers Bloodhounds would like to welcome old and new friends for the forthcoming season. Renowned for their friendliness, care and fun The FBH look forward to seeing everyone enjoying this unique hunting experience. All dates and venues may be found on the website www.farmersbloodhounds.co.uk

The Farmers Bloodhounds would like to thank all the supporters, the helpers and the landowners whose ground they are so lucky to be invited to cross.
