2019 Greatest Achievements Sian Chapple - Hyam

‘This year was my first season with my horse, Golly. I have had him over two years, but last year I had a nasty accident, which resulted in me breaking my elbow, and not being able to ride all of last season. I started off this year’s season excited for what it might bring. Golly and I started off very well with coming 3rd in our first One Day Event! This then spurred me on for the rest of the season. Myself, my mum and Golly’s owner, all decided that the goal for the end of the season was to enter my first BE event.

So as the season went on, we participated in more and more competitions and ODE’s, and each time something would progress. I then got picked to represent my Riding Club at Blenheim Palace Eventer Challenge. That was such a great day. After that, I felt it was our time to enter the BE event.

Golly

Well all I can say is, that time was the right time! Golly was absolutely amazing and we went on to win our FIRST EVER British Eventing competition. I am over the moon with Golly, and all he had done for me this year. This is by far the biggest achievement for me to date!’

‘A dream came true. My little ex racehorse, Redbackcappuchino (Dotty), who many thought I should give up on, competed at the Horse of the Year Show. I couldn't believe it when we won the Riding Horse Hack SEIB Search for a Star HOYS qualifier at Arena UK. My nervous, unconfident, spooky worrier of a horse, took everything in her stride. I have never been so scared in my life as when I walked into the Top Spec Arena at HOYS. Friends and family had turned up to watch and cheer us on and I had an amazing support team. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. I think we have found Dotty's strength, we always knew she was a diva, she obviously likes being a show horse. We also had a fantastic year, winning at medium level dressage at The ROR Championships at Aintree and winning the Trailblazers Retrained Racehorse showing championship at Stoneleigh. It just shows you should never give up on any horse. Time and patience are all that are needed sometimes. ‘

‘After battling with intermittent lameness from laminitis at the start of the year, I had no expectations for 2019, so firstly to get to the BRC Festival Of The Horse Championships at Aston-le-Walls was more than I could have imagined. Me and my 14.3hh, 10 year old Connemara Gelding, Battlestown Dun Guy (aka Connor) qualified as an individual at the RC Area Combined Training (winning our area), so made the finals. As he's a spooky little so and so, I had visions of getting eliminated in the show jumping, but no, clear show jumping and a lovely (if slightly tense) dressage test, placing us in the top 10, which I could never have believed.

Then later in the year, our BD Team Quest team came 2nd at the regionals to qualify for the national champs, and I was absolutely gobsmacked to also qualify for the My Quest Novice Champs too. So off to Bury Farm we went for 3 days for the champion- ships. Connor has never stayed away before, and I think he found it a little overwhelming, but I could not have been prouder of him. He behaved impeccably all weekend, and I couldn't have asked anymore from him. From starting in the spring thinking he would be off his feet all summer, to getting to two national champs, have been a huge achievement and I'm so proud of him.’
