Accessing Opportunities through the DofE Volunteers Scheme!
The DofE Volunteers scheme has been running for several years and allows individuals the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of roles at School Games events across the academic year.
Archie, from Abbeyfield School has been volunteering through the scheme for several years. Last year he supported the opening of the largest School Games event at Marlborough College, and was even interviewed by BBC Wiltshire. Nathan and Abbi, also from
Just over 3 years ago, Selwyn Widger’s son, one of our School Games Organisers, aged just 2 ½ was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He is due to finish his chemo on Thursday 19th December 2019.
Throughout this very stressful and challenging journey we have received a great deal of support from CLIC Sargent.
On Sunday 15th March I am running the Bath Half Marathon for CLIC Sargent.

Abbeyfield, volunteered at the Change 4 Life Festival. They received training to become competent in delivering activities and Nathan had the important role of being the School Games mascot Ra-Cat.
Despite not wishing to pursue a career in sport, Abbi said volunteering through the scheme has given her experience and transferrable skills to apply within a career in other fields. Similarly, Nathan who aims to become a primary school teacher said the scheme has enabled him to gain experience he can draw upon within this role, such as communicating with younger children.
Through the scheme volunteers can also access funded training opportunities such as a First Aid or Safeguarding Qualification, or a Level 1 or 2 Sports Coaching Qualification!
The DofE scheme is open to anyone over the age of 16 with an interest in sport and a positive attitude! To find out more about the scheme, email Molly at
