School Games Organisers Profiles

conferences for Mid Wilts schools was pleasing as was the launch of a Devizes & District Primary schools football league which regularly attracted over 250 players and parents. Another highlight was seeing a number of new schools achieve sports games mark awards for the first time.

PAUL WICKENS

I have been the Mid Wilts School Games Organiser for 4 years now. Before that, I taught secondary PE in a number of nice places in the UK including Malvern, Canterbury and Bath. I’m based at Devizes School and spend approximately 3.5 days on School Games Organiser work plus delivering sports leaders courses and enrichment activities. I’m also contracted to do some mentoring work with the elite tennis players at Ralph Allen School in Bath.

2018/2019 was a successful year in Mid Wilts schools with more participation in School Games events at both primary and secondary level than the year before. On a personal level, organising 2 successful PE

In 2019 / 2020, I’m seeking to target small ‘pockets’ of relatively inactive schools through more primary festivals that are participatory rather than competitive eg Dodgeball; I’m developing closer links with the independent school, Dauntseys, to use their facilities and expertise for a new Dance Festival, plus other sports festivals, and we’re also developing some new initiatives within ‘traditional’ sports eg Street cricket and Futsal.

COLLETTE PREISTMAN

I taught in London for 5 years as a PE Teacher before moving to Wiltshire to become a School Sports Co- ordinator, then became the Partnership Development Manager of the AVSSP when Avon Valley College became a Sports Collage, when the government stopped that role I moved over to School Games Organiser. I now teach 2 days a week at Avon Valley College,

2 days as School Games Organiser and 1 day release to support my cluster primary schools.

My Highlights are Change 4 Life festival at the School Games - increase in schools bringing A,B,C teams to festivals - the number of students at Avon Valley College who now wish to get involved as leaders.

My priorities for this year are getting those schools who didn’t enter a school games festival last year to enter at least 2 this year. Getting more schools to apply for the school Games kitemark.

Emily Reynolds. Hosted by the Acorn Education Trust and based at Kingdown School in Warminster.

My highlights from the last year are being nominated for School Games Organiser of the year, shortlisted for national innovation award and being asked to join the School Games Consultation Group.

My priorities for this year will be to target schools that need to get more involved in competitions. Trialling new competition formats to make them more enjoyable and ‘Spirit of the games’ scoring at some events reward positive behaviours. Provide more varied opportunities for different types of pupils and abilities and a new Key Stage 1 only 3 day Dance Festival. I am particularly looking forward to running the Bath Half Marathon for my son to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
