August Bank Holiday Show

at Mount Mascal Stables, Bexley, Kent Monday 26th August 2019

ith good weather promised the annual August Bank Holiday Charity fundraising show, hosted by the Window family at Mount Mascal Stables, was geared up to be a great day, if a little too hot! Each year competitors, visitors, sponsors, charities, stalls along with refreshments and attractions flock to the rural site in Bexley set in some 70 acres.

The day kicked off early and the fields came to life with the stallholders setting up and riders warming up their horses ready for a fun packed day of competition ahead. The beautiful courses were set for riders to begin to battle it out for trophies, rosettes and prize money.

Aside the from the horses the other main attraction especially for the public is the Family Field. This year it featured Jamb’s Owls, Pop Up Pony Rides, inflatable fun and fun fair rides, forest themed activities and other food and local stalls. A range of refreshments were available across the site keeping everyone’s hunger and thirst at bay. Sausage rolls by Gourmet Sausage maker Bexley, delicious curries supplied by the Dartford Lions or our very own Grub Shack cooking up a varied selection of tasty bites. The Ice Cream van was also in high demand all day!

The equestrian classes welcomed local judges Laura Jack and Robert Vallance. Laura Jack judged all of the ridden classes of which she said the ‘standard was high’. The Corporal Championship was won by Megan Kelly on her own Ridgehills Supernatural. The In Hand ring was well attended with competitors showing off their equines from the ground. In these classes manners from both rider and horse are key to securing a top spot in the line-up! The ‘Kelly’ family were victorious again with sister Eden Kelly taking the In Hand Championship with her black mare Woodhills Miss Daisy. Megan Kelly continued her success taking home the Alzamina Shield which is awarded to the Mount Mascal Client who has gained the highest overall points throughout the day. Well done Megan!

Judge Fiona Jones was providing entertaining commentary to all those watching the Nursery jumping in Ring 1. One of the highlights was the Ellie Memorial Horse and Groom class where the riders groom runs around the course on foot afterwards. This class made some entertaining viewing with very competitive grooms. Evie Newman was victorious with Bakeburn Princess with Heidi Fitzsimon being the energetic groom.

Over in Ring 2 - Ben Gorman continued his winning streak with his lovely dun mare Whitley Village Golden Dawn, having already won the Working Hunter he continued to gain 1st place in the Paige Ash Memorial 70/80cm and also the ‘Most Stylish Rider’ award kindly sponsored by Central Horse News. After the Charity Raffle had been drawn by the Mayor of Bexley, crowds gathered for the eagerly awaited Bexley Skip Hire accumulator. Riders take their own line round a course of fences building up points as they go. There is a chance to boost your score by jumping the ‘500 point’ joker fence but knock it down and 500 points are deducted from your round. Claudia Gardner and Santiago UK were the only combination to jump the huge joker fence successfully and took the win and £75 prize money.

We were delighted to receive a visit from the Mayor of Bexley along with the Deputy Major Consort. We take great pride in our fund raising efforts and the Mayors charity this year is The Umbrella appeal which is aimed at supporting smaller charities within Bexley. We would like to thank all of our competitors, exhibitors, spectators, judges and volunteers for their time and support. Special thanks must also go to our sponsors whose help is greatly appreciated. The show would not be possible without their generous contributions so thank you so much. We look forward to seeing you soon at our next event. Don’t forget to check our Facebook page for details of upcoming events.
