CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 1st Dec FOR BIG YELLOW BUS PROJECT

Fosse Close Christmas Lights Switch On, with Live Wrestling and Stalls! At 5.30pm 1st December.

Lee Trotman has lived in and around Cirencester all his life. He was born in Cirencester and lived at Cecily Hill before moving to South Cerney. He moved back to Cirencester as an adult and has been here ever since. He was a self-employed mobile DJ before becoming disabled due to feet problems. As children, Lee and his sister, Rachel Stear, loved going for drives with their parents to look at Christmas lights. Lee always used to say he’d decorate his own house when he was older.

Lee told us, “Five years ago I decorated my house in Fos- se Close with thousands of lights after my partner told me to decorate the outside and she would do the inside. My nephew Liam and my best friend Steve put up all the lights as I’m now unable to.

“In 2016 I decided to raise money with the lights, for the British Heart Foundation. We raised around £400. My mum found out she had leukaemia in 2017, so we then raised money for Linc a leukaemia charity. That year I asked the neighbours if they would like to get involved too, so up went lights on num- bers 58, 60, 61,62, 63 and 64 Fosse Close. Many people came to see it. In 2018 we helped Wiltshire Air Ambu- lance and Great Weston Air Ambulance. More lights were added to the houses plus a couple of stalls selling Christmas ware.

“This year as well as these I am decorating my back garden for people to come and see. At the Switch-On evening, we also have a wrestling company, AWA, putting on a show with Cirencester Wrestling Federation (CWF) who now hold an annual show raising money for meningitis. The TV showing is on Fridays 10.30pm on Ben TV on Sky. CWF and AWA are known for their family friendly all action wrestling.

“We decided to raise money for the Big Yellow Bus this year. It is a registered charity set up by Gerry Watkins who has transformed a bus in Cirencester into a warm safe cosy place for the homeless to sleep.

“Gerry has organised a band, 6 O’clock Circus, to play for us on the Switch On evening. We already have seven stalls for our Christmas Market and more have shown interest. They will have lots of Christmas gift ideas, smellies, art creations and more. Tea, coffee and hotdogs available plus another food stall. Father Christmas will say hello with chocolates for all the children.”

The lights will be on every evening from 5pm until 11pm, and all of Christmas Day.
