Cirencester Scene Magazine - Supporting Local Businesses Hello from Cirencester Growth Hub!

Brexit dominates the news agenda and at Cirencester Growth Hub we are supporting local businesses by answering ques- tions and giving them guidance.

At the time of writing, we were heading towards the October 31st deadline, but whatever happens (or doesn’t happen) on that date, there will still be many questions and concerns from busi- nesses of all sectors.

As champions of developing business- es in the Cirencester area, it is also our duty to represent the views of local enterprises. It may be 119 miles from Gloucestershire to the

Houses of Parliament, but businesses based here are enti- tled to a voice.

So to gather the feelings and concerns of business people in the area, we have set up a short survey, which will help inform the message we give to MPs.

We have a Brexit Hub on the Gloucestershire Growth Hub website – www.thegrowthhub.biz – which has helpful links and information. This includes details of international trade

events, expert articles, frequently asked questions and a link to the survey.

We have also included a link to the govern- ment’s 7-step tool to help businesses get guidance relevant to their particular sector.

Deb Govier, Business Navigator at Cirencester Growth Hub, said: “To find the solutions to businesses’ challenges, we want to hear from business owners. We will use this infor- mation to make sure that Gloucestershire’s voice is heard in West- minster, and to make sure that we have the resources to support businesses’ specific needs.”

Cirencester Growth Hub, by the Royal Agricultural Universi- ty, is part of the Gloucestershire Growth Hub network and supports developing businesses. Events and workshops are staged every month, which are free to Gloucestershire-based businesses. There is also co-working space, available on a pay-as-you-go or membership basis.

Unlike Brexit, your Self Assessment Tax Return will not be delayed!! But panic not, you still have time but need to ACT NOW as the 31st January 2020 deadline is fast approaching so here are our helpful Top Tips:

• Like Brexit, your mate down the pub does NOT have the answers - ENGAGE NOW with an accountant, or start working if planning to DIY

• Use the BEST TOOLS to simplify things – we provide all clients with Receipt Bank to photo or email re- ceipts to gather all information in minutes

• COLLECT all relevant INFORMATION before you start/approach an accountant – your UTR (Unique Tax Reference), tax code, INCOME (savings interest, dividends, property rental, employment, self employ- ment figures) OUTGOINGS, etc.

• Set aside DEDICATED TIME - it is unrealistic to try gathering 12months of information into 20minutes!!

• Get SMART ACCOUNTING ADVICE to ensure you claim all ALLOWABLE EXPENSES including –

o Annual Investment Allowance for large purchases

Being prepared is the key to Self-Assessment success. Howard Smith, Founder of Cirencester Accountants, The Numbercrunchers, comments

“Most clients just want to hand over all their infor- mation, let us sort through it and then tell them what tax is due – it really can be that simple, but the more time we are given, the less stressful it is – and not just for the client!”

So with those thoughts in mind, ACT NOW and, unlike Brexit, your January Self Assessment will pass without being headline news!!
