“…He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound… give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called…the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.”
—Isaiah 61:1-3
VOCATIONAL TRAINING —- WHY IS IT AN IMPORTANT FORM OF OUTREACH? While we can provide immediate help to individuals and
families with food and clothing, we want to go a step further to set people on a better path for a brighter tomorrow.
A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the spiritual component to change a person’s eternal future, which is why WME is committed to evangelism. And vocational training can enable individuals and families to start a path toward self-sufficiency and hope.
Training may supply tailoring skills and a sewing machine to a young woman or single mother. Cosmetology tools bring regular income to others. Giving a man fishing nets helps him provide for his family. Seeds grow into crops to eat and sell in a market.
Here is one prime example. India is reported to have 18 million slaves, more than any
other country. People with little money can find themselves trapped in modern slavery, whether due to child labor or sexual, domestic or bonded slavery.
