In 2009, Sri Lanka emerged from a bloody, ethnic civil war of nearly 30 years. Even after the war ended, hostilities from militant factions and religious persecution were present. Then on April 21, 2019, the nation was rocked by the Easter Sunday terrorist bombings, which shattered the fragile sense of peace on the island.
Sri Lanka has an entire generation who don’t know how to live without a pervading sense of fear and hopelessness. Here are some staggering statistics: (1) Over 10% of our youth migrate overseas seeking a better future; (2) Over 42% of youth from rural towns leave due to the hopelessness in their areas; and (3) Sri Lanka is ranked 4th in the world for suicide.
But we know the power of the Gospel can turn their lives around! The time has come for Sri Lanka to see major spiritual breakthrough. And it is this generation of young adults, youth and children who are poised to lead transformation in this nation.
The youth are coming in huge numbers to Christian praise and worship conferences.
