ing horses free choice forage on floor level, free choice forage raised and reward forage. The horses all preferred the reward forage even though they
had the ability to help themselves to food without ‘working’ for it. This concluded that the horses enjoyed the stimulation, interaction and communication. Since horses have typically become desensi- tized to the cues for ridden work, positive reinforcement protocols will be implemented to elicit a more desirable response to cue vs the use of spurs and whips which typically escalate pressure.
