WELL, we have had a very busy Summer.


Over


70 volunteers have been driving, volunteering for local organisations


or Isolation


Busting. We have not seen the usual Summer reduction in hospital appointments so our drivers have been particularly stretched, our record is six trips in the day to three different hospitals.


One of our highlights has to be the Community Picnic which took place at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday 21st August. This was a joint event hosted by HVC and the Blyth Valley Team.

Over 50 people joined us for sandwiches, crisps, slices of delicious quiche and loads and loads of cake. It was a really lovely event – St Mary’s looked great and the removal of the pews has created a lovely, flexible space – perfect for bringing people together. Huge thanks to all who contributed to such a successful event, special thanks to Rev Jane, Alison and Win Sutton who did so much to make the event such a success, Carolyn and Peter for help on the day, Jason for sorting the

If you cannot travel independently any more but need to do important business in Beccles, HACT and HVC are exploring the possibility of running a ‘Bank Bus’ once a month. For a donation to cover costs, HVC would commission a bus to take up to 16 people to Beccles for a couple of hours. We don’t know if there will be a demand for this service, but if you would like to discuss this idea further, please ring the HVC office and talk to Emma or Karen on 01986 875600. The Hygiene Bank has come to Halesworth and is being supported by the Foodbank and HVC. Hygiene Banks provide items like toothpaste, deodorant,


sanitary nappies and soap. towels, HVC can


provide you with these items if you are in need or you can get them from the Foodbank every Wednesday. Community Action Suffolk are launching Suffolk Action Week in October and will be holding a Volunteer Fair at Halesworth Library on Tuesday 1st October. HALESWORTH SCARECROW FESTIVAL 2019 - 10th


ANNIVERSARY!


DOESN’T time fly when you’re having fun. Who’d have thought it, but the Halesworth Scarecrow Festival has now been running for 10 years and we need your help to make this year extra special to mark the occasion. We know that,


technically,


it’s still summer, but for anything to work well it needs a lot of planning, so we’ve already got our thinking caps on about this year’s October half- term Scarecrow Festival which will take place from Saturday 19th October to Sunday 26th October.

We hope you agree that it’s worth the work. We had people coming from far and wide to see the scarecrows, and one of these years we will get a TV crew to turn up (we invite them every year, but so far no joy, so if anyone has any contacts please let us know). So, what do you say? Will you please put your creative head on and come up with another wonderful scarecrow? If there are other businesses, organisations or residents who’d like to take part,
