SOUTHWOLD RUGBY CLUB

Southwold Rugby Football Club Family Fun Day 2019

FOUNDED in 1964, Cups!

Southwold Rugby Club started life 55 years ago with just one team. Over the years the club has grown and now has over 350 members.

Southwold Rugby Club

is flourishing and the teams continue to grow in stature and reputation beyond the Eastern Counties. The first team secured their place in London Division 2 following promotion last year, a season in which they beat Ipswich, Norwich and Stowmarket. Meanwhile the Development team stormed their league last season and were unbeaten in 16 matches and averaged seven tries per game!

Throughout the club the squads continue to grow. The sheer number of members allows Southwold Rugby Club to field six Minis teams aged under 7s to under 12s, four Youth teams ranging from under 13s to under 16s, a Colts team for under 18s, an under 21s team, a Ladies team and the two Men’s teams. Last season saw the Ladies team finish a very respectable mid- table in a highly competitive league and the U14s won both the County and Eastern County

Where the club is really moving forward is with youth rugby. The Minis and Youth sides continue to grow and thrive with good numbers across all age groups. Many emerging stars have been talent spotted and attend either the Northampton Saints’ or Leicester Tigers’

junior

academies and play County and Eastern Counties rugby. There

really is a fantastic

community feel about the club – it is one big family and players of all ages are welcomed and supported. A further example of the close-knit community feel of the club is demonstrated throughout the holidays when fixtures are arranged for the U21s so those at university can continue to play and stay connected to the club. Of course, on the field is where it all happens for the rugby players, but on the sideline friends and families are welcome to come and watch matches and feel part of the event. The clubhouse is open on all matchdays with non-members welcome to join the fun. Throughout the upcoming Rugby World Cup

The day was sponsored by

our grass is

Bramfield Meats who supplied the burgers and sausages. We would also like to thank Bayfield Property Services who donated a very large jar of sweets for the Guess the Sweets in the Jar game, and to all of those who sent us in your unwanted goodies for the Tombola – a stall that never fails to get the children excited. Micropress Printers supported a fabulous Arts and Craft area where the children were able to design their own rugby ball, create a greetings card and have a fun at the sticky station! Finally, we would like to say

a massive thank you to all of the SRFC Hero’s who gave up their time to help on the day – we couldn’t do it without you. We hope to see you all next

year.
