The Farmers Bloodhound Opening Hunt Ride at Plum Park Farm, Towcester, Northamptonshire Wednesday 7th August 2019

Report by Ginny Oakley Pope Photos by Paul Buddin T

he Farmers Bloodhounds were blessed with pleasantly warm weather and a great turnout for their first hunt ride of the year. Senior Master, Brian Temple, welcomed everyone to Plum Park Farm, the home of The Farmers Bloodhounds. All the FBH Masters were out, Jamie

Temple, Ian Wills and Heather Moodie with assistance from David Pratley. The Temple family were indeed out in force with Chloe, Jamie’s wife, joining the fun, whilst their new son Theo was looked after by his granny.

Hunt Rides and Hound Exercise are a perfect way to introduce the less experienced rider and horse to hunting plus aiding the more seasoned combinations towards fitness for the forthcoming season. Young and older (!) set off across the farm for the start of the ride which then led them over Wakefield Estate before turning back to Plum Park Farm. The new and improved cross-country course provided plenty of entertainment on the final leg before tea. The course was updated for this year’s new venture of running an affiliated team chase, thus providing different fences and some interesting combinations to tackle. Many people took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a school and those who did not wish to jump, always optional prior to Opening Meet, headed back. On return to Plum Park tea was served in the Function Room. Known to always be most delicious, Debbie Temple certainly had set out an amazing spread. Hot pork rolls, cheeses and cakes were happily consumed by the riders, foot followers and helpers alike. Paul Buddin, the resident professional photographer was around to capture the evening's enjoyable and social ride. We are indebted to all landowners who so kindly invite The FBH to cross their land throughout the season. The hospitality and support are much appreciated. The FBH are renowned for their welcoming ways to followers old and new. Dates and venues are on the website including helpful and additional information.
